About the role
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for delivering technical excellence in managing and maintaining the LAN, WAN, MPLS and Security technologies. The role requires a balance of a depth of technical expertise, communication excellence, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. The engineer will provide professional and proactive (remote and onsite) support while maintaining a high level of stakeholder engagement and ensuring optimal network reliability.
To ensure optimal planning for incident recovery, network changes, and adherence to configuration standards. This role is central to developing and implementing network operations strategies, ensuring the alignment of technical solutions with organisational objectives, and maintaining high levels of service delivery.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Strategy Development:
Contribute to the Network Operations Strategy and support organisational strategies.
Develop and socialise technical and process-based strategies within your responsibilities.
Assist in developing an aligning strategic plan with the technical direction of Network Operations.
Technical Leadership:
Own the ICT infrastructure and technical standards across client and Reflex managed environments.
Lead technical teams during incidents and project deployments to resolve network issues and implementing industry best practises.
Elevate the team’s technical skills through coaching and skills development.
Collaborate with service provider partners to maintain high technical and quality standards.
Maintenance, Installation, and Research:
Install and configure client and core network devices, ensuring industry best practises using and enforcing standard operating procedures.
Troubleshoot and resolve support escalations remotely or onsite from support desks, troubleshooting client and core network problems.
Participate in research and development activities to enhance solution design and test new equipment.
Training and Staff Development:
Facilitate knowledge transfer and internal training to uplift staff capabilities.
Contribute to internal knowledge base with “How-to” information and troubleshooting examples.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Technical Certifications
CCIE – Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert
HCIE - Huawei Certified Internetworking Expert
NSE7 - Fortinet Network Security Expert
Expert knowledge in MPLS, BGP, IGPs, LAN, SD-WAN and Security technologies
Track record of network automation (Ansible/Python scripting), monitoring (SolarWinds/PRTG/IRIS).
5-7 years of experience in technology fields, preferably in operationally focused positions within a large IT or telecom service provider environment.
Exceptional communication skills, capable of effective communication with technical and non-technical personnel.
Familiarity with a broad spectrum of hardware and transmission technologies including Cisco, Huawei, Fortinet, H3C and Ubiquiti
