Senior Multidisciplinary Designer

BaseMEL is looking for a Senior Digital/Multidisciplinary Designer, a concept-led thinker who lives and breathes digital but can stretch into brand, motion and/or campaign work, then land it with craft and clarity.

As the newest Base, Melbourne is a tight-knit team of six (plus a circle of collaborators) working across arts & culture, beauty & fashion, architecture, tech, media, sport and hospitality. We need someone who can own digital experiences end-to-end, pushing ideas, steering design systems and guiding younger team-mates along the way.

We’re hiring full-time. We run hybrid, with Tuesday–Thursday in-studio and optional WFH on Mondays and Fridays.

Responsibilities:

Relentlessly pursue original concepts that outlive trends, especially in digital.
Lead projects from research and strategy through to delivery: websites, apps, brand identities, campaigns, packaging and more.
Translate a brand’s essence into distinctive, responsive digital experiences; build interactive prototypes to sell the idea.
Guide and mentor mid/junior designers; give and take feedback with clarity.
Spot and brief the right collaborators (developers, animators, photographers, writers, etc.) to elevate the work.
Partner with PMs to scope, schedule and hit deadlines.
Present work to clients with confidence; build trust and push thinking.

Qualifications & Qualities:

5+ years’ studio/agency experience with digital at the core.
Expert in UX/UI and digital motion; typography obsession and brand chops.
Fluency in Figma and Adobe CC; After Effects, 3D or prototyping tools a plus.
Collaborative, proactive, rigorous; equally strategic and creative.
Restless thinker who challenges, surprises and raises the bar.
Detail-driven executor who can scale an idea across any medium.
Communicative! Both when presenting work and internally with the team and project management.
Culturally engaged and perpetually curious.
Melbourne-based with full Australian working rights.

Housekeeping:

Full-time (9 am – 6 pm, Mon–Fri). Freelancers with senior-level digital skills are welcome to introduce themselves.
Immediate start preferred.
