SENIOR MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST
(FULL TIME)
One (1) full time Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist position is available with Groves Memorial Community Hospital in our Laboratory Department.
The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist will assume responsibilities for the laboratory, reporting to the WHCA Laboratory Manager for the efficient functioning of the laboratory.
This position is unionized with the OPSEU, Local 236.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program
Current Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in all lab areas
Completion of a Clinical Laboratory Management program, preferred
At least 2-3 years of current technical experience in General/Core laboratory
Membership in applicable professional organizations
Ability to solve problems of an analytical or technical nature
Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and procedure manuals
Ability to analyze and interpret laboratory test results
Ability to interact effectively with information systems
Demonstrated knowledge and sound judgement as it pertains to patient and staff safety
Superior communication, team building, technology, and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with many and varied internal and external individuals, departments, groups, and agencies
Satisfactory performance and attendance required
Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not limited to):
Ensure that accreditation and government regulations that apply to laboratory practice in the section are fulfilled or exceeded
Bench work as required (front-line)
Update bench manuals in keeping with the directives from the Laboratory Administration
Ensure proper techniques are utilized and that output meets established standards
Develop and follow Quality Assurance and Quality Control Standards in keeping with the IHLP Quality Management System
Supervise the performance of quality assurance, quality control, and external proficiency testing, including the review and signing of quality control charts on a weekly basis
Submit EQA reports on time, checking for transcription errors, reviewing results and drafting EQA discordant responses for final review by the Regional Coordinator and Laboratory Director
Responsible for the maintenance of a safe working environment and for compliance of staff with established safety procedures (Eg. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Laboratory Safety Committee etc.)
Assist in implementation of new QC/Reagent lot #s
Monthly sign-off of QA activities including monthly maintenance charts
Oversee new equipment implementation
Maintain adequate inventory of supplies to ensure uninterrupted service (Requisitioning supplies for the section)
Ensure POCT training is managed- may delegate
Attend hospital specific and IHLP TD meetings as required
Arrange and conduct the orientation of new staff members and the clinical instruction of students
Assist manager with scheduling including coverage for unscheduled absenteeism
Ensure completion and submission of all external EQA including IQMH and IHLP
Problem solving and documenting issues through Occurrence Reporting
Maintaining workload statistics and preparing the monthly statistical report for the section
Checking and reviewing the work of subordinates for correctness and thoroughness, approving or rejecting their results and directing further action as required
HOURS OF WORK:
As per department schedule (with 7.5 hours per week dedicated time to perform Lead duties)
Must be available for all shifts
SALARY: $42.24 - $53.28 per hour
