SGS South Africa, Matrocast Division, is seeking to fill a key role in its Commercial   Laboratory in Belville. The role includes but are not limited to assisting the Supervisor/ Laboratory Manager with all tasks, whether it’s on site or in the commercial laboratory. To conduct field testing and/or delivery of equipment to various sites, to complete all preparation of materials to be tested in the laboratory division, including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregate with bench calculation as and when required for testing. The Senior Materials Tester will ensure that the laboratory is clean at all times and will carry out all work-related instructions from the supervisors or authorized personnel. 
The ideal candidate for this position will be a person with integrity and good technical and interpersonal skills and is able to command respect from those he/she deals with, whilst possessing enough energy and passion to maintain good staff relationships. A successful career in delivering performance against agreed strategic objectives and ultimately ensuring that all quality and testing methods are observed, and any deviation is reported without delay.
• Senior Materials Tester is responsible to supervise and/or carry out and take responsibility of testing for all tests that the employee is deemed competent for strictly in accordance to prescribed methods. • A Senior Materials Tester is responsible for cleaning up the site or workshop after task is completed or at the end of the day which every comes first, where the job was carried out and will make sure its free off all consumables used to perform the job (masking tape, tins).
• A Senior Materials Tester is responsible to adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
• A Senior Materials Tester is responsible to orally report any deviations, irregularities and non-conformances
• A Senior Materials Tester is responsible to perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager and regional manager.
• A Senior Materials Tester is responsible to perform all field and laboratory work including sampling, calculations and performing test methods accurately
• Assist with stock tacking of equipment when required.
• Assist with any other tasks in the Support Services Department  when required
• Complete timesheets accurately on a daily basis.
• Ensure discipline within his/her assigned department,
• Grade 12
• Code EC Drivers License + PDP 
• Knowledge, skills and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through - Recognition of Prior Learning.
• Language: Proficiency in English (Read, write, speak
• Computer literacy in Word, Excel, Outlook
• Must be competent and comfortable with the SANS and THM 1 test methods.
• Sampling and preparation experience advantageous
• Administration experience will be Advantageous
• Fieldwork (densities, layer/stockpile sampling, manufacture and handle concrete cubes, DCP, Ring and Ball test (road surfaces), Sand Patch, On Site Viscosity tests, Sampling of Asphalt and Bitumen.
• Competent and qualified to do all tests in all laboratory divisions including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete / aggregate
• Do all calculations in full related to the tests mentioned above
• Control laboratory activities such as quality control under supervision.
• Physically able and willing to work with, move and pick up samples as and when required,
