Job Description
This role is with the AI+ Research & Commercialization (ARC) team at BMO. A dynamic opportunity for those interested in working at the intersection of AI, governance, and responsible innovation, this role will be instrumental in advancing our first line of defense (1LOD) AI Governance program across Technology & Operations and Enterprise functions. The successful candidate will ensure alignment with Risk Directives and Enterprise AI Strategy, helping to embed responsible AI practices across the organization. This position requires a strong technical and governance skillset in AI in to effectively review AI solutions, assess risks, and propose appropriate controls. The Senior Manager will work closely with data science teams to ensure that AI systems are developed and deployed responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the intake, triage, and risk assessment of AI use cases, ensuring alignment with organizational AI risk and governance frameworks.
• Support the development and execution of AI governance programs, including stakeholder engagement, issue escalation, and lifecycle oversight of AI initiatives.
• Maintain and reconcile inventories of AI use cases and associated risk controls, ensuring documentation is current and accessible.
• Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and key risk metrics (KRMs) to relevant oversight teams to ensure transparency and accountability.
• Collaborate with business unit AI leads to standardize governance practices and ensure consistent application of risk controls across departments.
• Serve as a governance liaison across technology and business teams, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk management strategies.
• Review AI models and solutions to identify potential risks and recommend appropriate controls in collaboration with data science teams.
• Ensure governance documentation and evidence are audit-ready and meet internal and external compliance expectations.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required; advanced degree (e.g., Masters, PhD) related to responsible AI / responsible innovation preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in AI implementation, risk management, AI governance, data science, or a related field within a regulated industry.
• Strong understanding of AI risk frameworks, model risk management, and regulatory expectations.
• AI/ML Data Science prior experience and strong grasp of the technology aspects of AI
• Strong understanding of data science and machine learning concepts, including use case development stages, validation, and ongoing monitoring.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional programs and influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience with governance tools, risk control libraries, and enterprise reporting systems.

Salary:
$112,200.00 - $209,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.
Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
