JOB DESCRIPTION:

Regulatory & Financial Services Advice

Provide legal advice on laws and regulations applicable to EMIs, payment services, e-money, safeguarding, AML, consumer protection, data privacy, and outsourcing.

Support the business in interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

Advise on new products, services, and strategic initiatives from a legal and regulatory perspective.

Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the payments and fintech sector and provide timely guidance.

Commercial Contracts

Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements, including: customer agreements, partnership agreements, vendor and outsourcing agreements, banking and payment services agreements, technology and software agreements, NDAs and service level agreements

Ensure contractual arrangements align with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Corporate & Strategic Support

Provide legal support on corporate governance matters, board resolutions, intra-group arrangements, and strategic transactions.

Assist with licensing, passporting/registration matters, regulator submissions, and responses to supervisory queries.

Support mergers, acquisitions, investments, and other corporate transactions, as needed.

Risk Management & Internal Advisory

Identify legal risks and recommend practical mitigation measures.

Work closely with Compliance, Risk, Product, Operations, and senior management on legal matters affecting the business.

Develop and improve internal legal templates, policies, and processes.

Deliver internal legal training to business teams on key legal and regulatory topics.

Disputes & External Counsel Management

Support dispute resolution, complaints handling, and pre-litigation matters.

Manage external counsel efficiently and cost-effectively where specialist support is required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION & QALIFICATIONS:

Qualified lawyer with a valid practicing certificate from any EU member sate.

Minimum 3–5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house experience.

Strong experience in financial services, payments, fintech, or EMI-related legal work.

Solid understanding of legal frameworks relevant to EMIs and payment institutions.

Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.

Familiarity with cross-border legal and regulatory issues is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of financial services regulation and commercial law.

Excellent drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis skills.

Strong business judgment and ability to provide practical, solution-oriented advice.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

In-house experience within an EMI, payment institution, fintech, bank, or regulated financial services firm.

Experience working with regulators and handling licensing or supervisory matters.

Knowledge of data protection, outsourcing, and consumer financial services rules.

International or multi-jurisdictional experience.
