About STATSports:
What if the product you helped to build next week was worn by an elite athlete the week after?
At STATSports, that could be your reality.
Since 2007, we’ve grown from a small Irish start-up into the global leader in GPS performance tracking, trusted by the world’s biggest clubs, leagues, and athletes. Our technology sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and sport, helping teams optimise performance, reduce injury risk, and unlock insights that were previously impossible.
But just as importantly, our products support the next generation of athletes, from academies to grassroots, giving them access to the same performance tools as the pros.
Innovation has always driven us forward, and it’s our people who make that happen.
The opportunity:
We’re looking for a Senior Electronic Engineer to join our product development team and play a key role in designing and delivering the next generation of STATSports hardware.
This is a senior, end-to-end engineering role where you’ll take ownership of complex electronic designs from early concept through to factory NPI and certification. You’ll work across electronic hardware, embedded firmware, testing, and validation, collaborating closely with software, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams.
If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, taking products from idea to production, and seeing your designs used at the very highest level of sport, this role will suit you.
What you’ll be doing:
Contributing to new and existing product developments from concept through to implementation, including hardware design, firmware, testing, validation, and NPI
Driving circuit-level hardware design, including architecture, component selection, schematic capture, BoM generation, library management, PCB layout oversight, simulation, fabrication, prototyping, and board bring-up
Designing and integrating complex PCB and cable assemblies within constrained mechanical enclosures
Creating mechanical models of PCB designs and collaborating with mechanical designers to ensure correct fit and integration
Working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget across the full product lifecycle
Designing and interfacing hardware peripherals, including sensors, power management devices, communication interfaces, opto-electronics, actuators, microcontrollers, and FPGAs
Designing and working with AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion systems
Developing embedded firmware in C/C++ (Python experience an advantage) for ARM Cortex-based systems
Implementing and debugging communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, and similar
Ensuring DFM/DFT considerations are applied throughout the electronic factory workflow
Designing test procedures, test rigs, and validation tools, and generating clear test reports
Supporting compliance and certification activities, including CE, EMC, FCC, FDA, and UL
Conducting and supporting EMC testing such as ESD, immunity, transient, conducted and radiated emissions
Applying tools such as FMEA to identify, analyse, and document system and component failures
Performing hands-on hardware and firmware debugging, including component replacement and fixture support
Participating in technical design reviews to ensure electrical integrity, safety, and quality
Supporting project planning, schedules, cost estimates, and delivery commitments in collaboration with the PMO
Actively contributing to quality improvements and adherence to the QA process
What we're looking for:
You’ll likely enjoy this role if you:
Have a degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
Have 5+ years’ experience designing and testing analogue, digital, and mixed-signal electronics
Can take products from concept through to factory NPI using structured EDA workflows
Are experienced with PCB design, component selection, sourcing, and DFM considerations
Have strong embedded firmware knowledge and experience implementing algorithms in firmware
Are comfortable working with ARM Cortex microcontrollers and common embedded protocols
Have experience with compliance and certification testing
Are confident using collaborative tools such as GIT, JIRA, or similar
Have strong hands-on assembly and debug skills
Can manage technical complexity while balancing timelines, quality, and cost
Communicate clearly and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Nice to have (but not essential):
Experience in areas such as medical devices, formal project management training, advanced EMC testing, FPGA development, or consumer electronics at scale is a bonus, but not required.
What’s in it for you:
A senior role shaping hardware used by elite athletes worldwide
End-to-end ownership of product development, from concept to production
Collaboration with world-class engineers across hardware, firmware, software, mechanical design, and manufacturing
Exposure to cutting-edge wearable and sports technology
A culture that values innovation, quality, and engineering excellence
The opportunity to leave a lasting mark on products used at the highest level of sport
Equal Opportunity Employer:
STATSports is an equal opportunity employer. If you feel you would be a great addition to the team and are excited by the prospect of forging an impactful career with us, we would love to hear from you. We would particularly welcome applications from women and underrepresented groups.
