GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Senior Geotechnical Technician/Technologist to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a full-time Senior Geotechnical Technician/Technologist in our London office. The successful candidate will have the following:
Educational & Experience Requirements:
College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field (C.E.T. or C.Tech. designation is considered an asset).
15+ years of experience as a geotechnical and/or materials technician/technologist in a consulting environment.
Knowledge of relevant testing methods and standards and procedures, including ASTM, CSA and OPSS
CCIL certification for testing concrete, Portable Nuclear Gauge use including Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
A demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Strong multi-tasking, organization, and planning skills
Ability to present technical information, both written and verbally, in a concise and professional manner.
Main Duties:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:
Supervise geotechnical investigation programs (SPT, CPT, vane shear testing, etc.) including review of utility locate clearances, scheduling drilling subcontractors, soil identification and borehole logging and caring for samples obtained
Collect samples and perform field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens
Compaction testing of soil, aggregates and asphalt concrete
Conduct inspections and assessments on construction sites, document findings, and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations, to project managers and engineers
Various office and field tasks related to materials testing, geotechnical engineering, and environmental engineering, as needed
Borehole surveying and carrying out field slope assessments
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate project activities and deliverables
Communicate project updates, milestones and concerns to clients in a clear and professional manner
Mentoring and training of junior staff
Maintain effective communication with project teams
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations and industry standards
Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability
Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
Adhere to all company policies and health and safety protocols, promoting a safe work environment
Assist with preparation of proposals, as needed
Position:

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 CAD Annually
In alignment with Ontario’s Employment Standards Act and pay‑transparency requirements, GEMTEC includes the expected compensation range in publicly advertised job postings for roles based in Ontario. This range reflects what GEMTEC reasonably anticipates paying for this position. Final compensation will be based on the successful candidate’s education, experience, skills, internal pay equity, specific Ontario location, or other factors unrelated to Ontario‑protected grounds.
