Get to Know the Team

As a full-stack team, we have end-to-end ownership of our ecosystem, managing database, server, and client components. Our mission is to create tools that allow seamless refinement of map data, using OpenStreetMap as our foundation.

You will collaborate with an experienced, diverse group of developers (Java, React, Go, DB) and specialists (QA, SRE, Data Science, Map Analysts) to solve complex, domain-specific challenges.

Get to know the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to take on a critical full-stack role within our team. You will have end-to-end ownership of new features and improvements, working across every part of our private map data layer.

Your contributions will help ensure the quality and reliability of our map services. This is an on-site role, and you will report to the Engineering Manager based in Cluj.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will play a central role in the end-to-end lifecycle of our components.

• Bring Architectural Strategy: You will have the autonomy to propose architectural solutions that enhance system scalability and maintainability. Your scope will cover the entire platform: database, Java/Go services, React front-end components, and infrastructure.
• Build Scalable Solutions: You will develop complex production applications built to handle large volumes of map data.
• Champion Engineering Excellence: You will deliver high-quality, scalable, and production-ready code using best practices. This responsibility extends to writing comprehensive unit, functional, and performance tests, conducting code reviews, and creating clear technical documentation.
• Collaborate with diverse teams: You will be an important collaborator, working with product managers, designers, map analysts, and data scientists.

What Skills You Will Need

• Backend Proficiency: A minimum of 4 years of backend development experience, with expertise in either Java (with a good understanding of Java 17) and/or Go-lang. This role requires willingness to work in both languages.
• Database Management: Expertise in RDBMS and NoSQL systems, with a preference for experience in PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
• Front-End Development: Proficient in React.js, D3.js, and CSS for building dynamic, interactive, and visually appealing user interfaces.
• Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.
• Containerization: Proficient in using Docker and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) for containerization and orchestration.
• Software Engineering Best Practices: Comprehensive understanding of the development lifecycle, including Agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Collaborative Mindset: Fluent in English, strong communication skills.

Nice to Haves :

• Geospatial Domain Experience: A background in GIS, map-making, or experience with big geospatial data processing.
• Mapping Tool Familiarity: Hands-on experience with OpenStreetMap (OSM), JOSM, or visualization kits like Mapbox and Mapillary.
• Monitor & Observability: Experience using Datadog for application monitoring and performance analysis.
• Advanced CI/CD: Specific experience with GitLab (including GitLab CI/CD) for version control and automated pipelines.
