The University of Auckland is Aotearoa’s leading university with 9,000 staff supporting more than 46,000 students to achieve their ambitions. As one of New Zealand’s most enduring brands, the University leads the way in teaching excellence and research, positively impacting the lives of its people, communities and society at large.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Working as part of the Financial Planning and Analytics team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial insights and analysis that enable senior leaders to make informed decisions in a complex, changing environment. Based adjacent to the University’s City Campus, your focus will be a mix of project work to understand the financial implications of strategic decisions and contributing to central management reporting.

You’ll engage closely with business units across the University, building understanding, monitoring performance, and identifying risks and opportunities. This includes regular forecasting, budget reviews, and the preparation of insightful financial reports.

This role is well-suited to someone with a strong foundation in data analysis, financial modelling, and the ability to draw clear conclusions and provide actionable recommendations. Your analytical depth and ability to clearly communicate complex financial information will be critical to your success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Planning & Analysis: Collaborate with stakeholders to assess trends, monitor forecasts and budgets, and deliver clear financial insights.
• Business Case Support: Ensure business cases are well-analysed, data-informed, and strategically aligned.
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to financial and operational processes.
• Strategic Business Partnering: Build strong working relationships, deliver excellent customer service, and improve financial understanding across the University.
• Coaching & Mentoring: Support the development of analyst colleagues and foster a collaborative team culture.
• Equity & Inclusion: Champion the University’s commitment to Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and inclusive, equity-led practices.

This is a 12-month fixed-term, full-time role (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) with a salary range of $126,000–$138,000 per annum, depending on experience.

You will bring:

• A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably with a major in accounting, finance or data analytics.
• Membership (or working towards membership) with CAANZ, CPA, or an equivalent accounting body.
• A strong track record 10+ years of working with financial and operational data to generate evidence-based recommendations.
• Experience in large, complex organisations, with knowledge of advanced financial systems and tools.
• Excellent communication skills—written and verbal.
