We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to join our AI Labs team and drive the development of next-generation document understanding technologies. Reporting to the VP of AI Labs, this role focuses on people leadership, team growth, and cross-functional collaboration while maintaining technical credibility with engineering teams. The ideal candidate will manage multiple AI/ML engineering teams, foster innovation culture, and execute on the strategic vision set by AI Labs leadership.

Core Responsibilities
- People Leadership: Lead and scale multiple AI/ML engineering teams, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management while fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and psychological safety
- Execution Excellence: Plan, prioritize, and oversee execution of AI/ML projects, ensuring on-time delivery while holding teams accountable and actively removing blockers
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, other Engineering teams that integrate our technology, and Customer Success teams to align technical execution with business objectives and drive customer-centric solutions
- Technical Oversight: Provide guidance on ML architecture decisions, ensure engineering best practices, and support technical vision implementation alongside Principal ML Engineers and Tech Leads
- Transparent Communication: Maintain deep visibility into team progress and challenges, proactively surfacing issues and risks to AI Labs leadership with no surprises
- Process Innovation: Design and implement scalable engineering processes, drive continuous improvement in development velocity, and lead incident response coordination
- Strategic Support: Support AI Labs leadership in strategic planning, establish team performance metrics, and represent engineering in cross-functional meetings
- Culture Development: Drive diversity and inclusion initiatives, conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews, and handle difficult conversations with clarity and fairness
- Decision Making: Make tough operational and technical decisions when necessary, bring structure to ambiguous situations, and drive technical debt management and modernization efforts

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience:
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years in engineering management roles
- Previous experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer with hands-on development background

Technical Expertise:
- Deep understanding of Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and modern Deep Learning architectures
- Proficiency in reading and reviewing code in Python, with understanding of ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Experience with cloud platforms, MLOps, and production ML system architecture
Strong understanding of ML product lifecycle including experimentation, model versioning, deployment, and monitoring
- Understanding of software development lifecycle, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices

Leadership & Communication:
- Exceptional people management skills with experience in performance management, accountability, and career development
- Strong track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams with a culture of ownership
- Excellence in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical strategies and drive execution
- Outstanding communication skills with ability to maintain transparency and trust with leadership Experience making tough decisions and having direct conversations about performance and expectations
- Ability to bring structure and clarity to ambiguous situations

Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with multimodal models and ML product lifecycle management
- Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs)
- Experience in development of cross-platform Computer Vision libraries
- Experience with Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), document understanding, natural language processing, or computer vision applications
- Experience managing teams working on complex or legacy codebases while driving modernization efforts
