About the Team

The Clumio Platform team designs, builds, and operates the core SaaS platform that underpins all Clumio data protection solutions, as well as industry’s first data protection solution for Apache Iceberg on AWS. For many customers, backup is not a “nice-to-have” capability, but a foundational requirement driven by compliance, audit, and security mandates. In these environments, recovery performance, cost efficiency, and reliable operation at scale are key differentiators.

The platform is designed to protect, back up, and recover large volumes of cloud data using a cloud-native architecture. The control and management plane scales dynamically based on workload characteristics such as the number of protected assets and the volume of events processed. A shared platform abstracts complexity from the underlying data management layer, enabling a consistent and seamless experience across supported data sources.

Beyond core backup and recovery, the platform provides essential non-backup capabilities including customer onboarding, metering and billing, reporting, alerting, and machine-learning-driven insights that enable customers to make smarter, cost-effective decisions about data protection. The team operates a mature, production-proven platform on AWS and is actively expanding into multi-cloud data protection across GCP and Azure.

Role Overview

As a Senior Engineer on the Clumio Platform team, you own and deliver components and features within the core cloud-native data protection platform, working under the technical direction of Principal Engineers. This role focuses on building correct, maintainable, and production-ready systems that are critical to customer-facing operations.

You work on problems that are not always fully specified upfront, translating high-level requirements into pragmatic technical implementations. This includes designing and implementing features, operating and improving them in production, and making informed trade-offs that balance simplicity, extensibility, cost, and operational reliability. Over time, you develop clear ownership of specific components or subsystems and increasingly drive feature development end-to-end.

Senior Engineers collaborate closely with Product, Quality Engineering, Customer Success, and other engineering teams to ensure solutions are robust, operable, and aligned with real-world customer needs. With guidance from Principal Engineers, you contribute to technical design discussions, incorporate customer feedback into system improvements, and grow toward broader technical ownership.

Basic Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of features or components from implementation through production operation.

• Experience building and operating non-trivial production systems, including diagnosing issues and improving implementations based on real-world behavior.

• Ability to translate loosely defined requirements into correct, maintainable technical solutions and make sound trade-offs under uncertainty.

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Java, Python, C++, Rust).

• Working knowledge of English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience owning a component or subsystem within a larger backend or cloud-native platform.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and common cloud-native design patterns.

• Experience with data-intensive systems, object storage, large-scale backend services, or AI/ML.

• Exposure to backup, disaster recovery, or data protection systems in production environments.
