JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior VDC Engineer leads the development and coordination of detailed 3D models and shop drawings to support accurate, efficient project execution. This role ensures design intent is fully realized in the field by collaborating with project managers, engineers, and trade partners to identify and resolve conflicts early. Responsibilities include producing high-quality, technically precise drawings, managing documentation and RFIs, and maintaining alignment with project specifications and schedules. They also mentor junior staff and support the continuous improvement of Tri-City’s VDC processes and standards.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Work with VDC systems (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks)/BIM coordination, creating, modifying, and releasing drawings.

Coordinate with and consult with other team members to design or layout detailed components and to resolve design or other problems.

Self-check own work for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with standards.

May be responsible for some design elements.

Work from drawings, sketches, scanned images, customer drawings, or government drawings or specifications.

Attend project meetings and provide information about the status of requested designs.

Coordinate and follow up with Project Managers to find out what their project needs are.

Manage own schedule and workflow by prioritizing projects.

Develop detailed design drawings using AutoCAD/Revit.

Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related

Produce mark-up drawings for layout purposes.

Modify and revise designs to correct inefficiencies or to reduce production problems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum three (3) years of related previous experience

Proficient in VDC systems using REVIT and AutoCAD

Strong computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products (Bluebeam, Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Ability to understand architectural and structural drawings

High School Diploma or GED

Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language at a minimum 12th-grade level

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bilingual

Electrical background

Graduate from a college or university with an Associate Degree in Computer Aided Drafting Technology (or equivalent)

Experience with Trimble products

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

General Office Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.

Environmental Conditions:
The work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled setting with minimal exposure to loud noise, temperature variations, or other environmental factors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Sitting/Standing: Requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, though there may be opportunities for standing and moving around the office as needed.

Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands to operate computer keyboards, mouse, and other office tools, as well as to handle paperwork.

Visual Requirements: The ability to read and interpret data on computer screens and printed documents is essential.

Mobility: Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, such as files, documents, or office supplies, may be requested. Must be able to access all areas of the facility and projects to determine purchasing needs.

Communication: Regular communication with colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders requires the ability to exchange information effectively in both verbal and written form.

 

SCHEDULE AND REQUIRED TRAVEL:

Requires the ability to report to job sites or offices throughout Florida.

May be requested to work overtime, nights, and weekends.
