Job Description
IONETIC – who are we?
IONETIC is a battery technology start-up based in Brackley, just a few miles from Silverstone—the heart of British motorsport. We specialise in battery pack solutions for low-volume electrified applications, including buses, sports cars, and other vehicles. Our mission is to make electrification both possible and compelling for every vehicle OEM, by providing tailored, cost-effective battery packs with unmatched speed and flexibility.
By integrating proprietary software, mechanical design, and manufacturing technologies, into a single technology stack we call Arc, we deliver custom battery systems that meet a wide range of energy, power, and lifecycle requirements. Our chemistry-agnostic, scalable designs are built to accelerate the journey to net zero for our customers.
Working at IONETIC
IONETIC offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-moving, innovative start-up that is shaping the future of electric mobility. With a strong order pipeline and growing demand for our technology, we’re expanding our team to broaden our capabilities and scale our operations.
As an early-stage employee, you will play a key role in developing the foundational technologies and capabilities that will power the next generation of electric vehicles. Every employee at IONETIC takes on meaningful responsibility and is encouraged to contribute ideas, take initiative, and grow both professionally and personally in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the development of electrical systems within our growing team. In this role, you will take ownership of electrical design activities, working across HV and LV architecture, safety circuitry, sensing, and integration with our BMS.
You will work closely with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure our electrical architectures are safe, scalable, and optimised for high-performance, low-volume production. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will help shape the core technologies that underpin IONETIC’s battery platform.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of electrical architectures for battery modules and packs, including HV distribution, LV electronics, fusing, contactors, sensing, and interconnects.
Select and specify electro-mechanical and electrical components, using performance and safety requirements to guide decision-making.
Define and maintain system-level and component-level electrical requirements.
Conduct and support electrical DFMEA activities to identify and mitigate design risks.
Ensure designs comply with relevant automotive and battery safety standards (e.g., UN 38.3, IEC, UL, ISO 6469).
Create and execute electrical design verification and validation plans.
Lead fault analysis and root-cause investigations for electrical issues.
Work with BMS engineers to integrate hardware, sensing strategies, protection circuitry, and communication interfaces into the battery platform.
Collaborate with mechanical teams to ensure alignment between electrical and mechanical designs, including assembly sequence, manufacturability, and thermal considerations.
Support prototype builds, system bring-up, testing, and customer integration activities.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
At least 5 years of experience in electrical design for battery systems, HV systems, or automotive electrical engineering.
Strong understanding of battery architectures, HV safety, sensing design, and protection strategies.
Experience working with BMS hardware, communication interfaces, and automotive electrical design practices.
Familiarity with systems engineering principles, including requirements management and the V-model.
Experience with DFMEA, DVP, and structured product development processes.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
Ability to clearly communicate ideas through reports, schematics, and presentations.
A valid UK driving licence or suitable alternative arrangements for travel.
Willingness to travel both within the UK and internationally as required.
