• How can we reduce driver partners' wait times at restaurants?The Regional Marketplace Strategy team takes on a set of diverse and challenging questions in the mobility, logistics and economics space within Grab. We focus on improving efficiency while balancing Grab's multi-sided marketplace across our ecosystem of driver partners, customers, merchant partners, and agents. Our work sees us improve experiences for our customers, contributes to providing growing income opportunities for our driver partners and merchants, and inspires growth, efficiency and profitability for Grab overall.We work with tech teams and operations teams across all of our 8 markets in Southeast Asia. Our core work covers pricing, fulfillment experience, driver retention & incentives and customer retention - but our scope frequently expands to solve issues beyond these topics.

Get to Know the Role

As a Senior Economist, you will be an important member of the Regional Marketplace Strategy team. Your primary responsibility will be to build a comprehensive framework to dissect the challenges we face, conduct research to assess, support, and inform the product direction, and produce a strategy based on your findings. You will also expect to use your influencing and partner management skills to align the teams behind a single strategy.

This role is important to shaping product strategy from a business perspective. You will report to Lead Economist (Data Scientist) which onsite working base in Bangkok office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will be representative of strategy partner for some of Grab's products, becoming the regional expert on a set of main products.
• You will provide strategic advice and expertise on business-critical issues through rigorous analysis paired with structured, big picture thinking.
• You will diagnose problems, identify main solutions and lead agreement on partners.
• You will conduct data-driven research and analyses to uncover new insights that inform product strategy.
• You will collaborate with regional product teams and local country teams. This collaboration will support the launch of new features and optimization of existing demand, supply, and market clearance levers. You will use experimentation, causal inference, or other suitable analytical methods to achieve this.
• Present strategic opportunity assessments & analysis to leadership.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have experience in Economics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Management Consulting, or strategy roles that involve quantitative fields.
• Analytical knowledge - Prior experience handling large, high velocity data; familiar with econometrics, common statistical, analytical and ML techniques.
• Foundation in experimentation and causal inference techniques.
• You have experience with SQL, and Python or R to implement data analytics or data science techniques on large datasets.
• Passion, and energy to fast learning and solve ambiguous problems that may evolve in scope or complexity; Ability to translate ideas into technical solutions.
• Present complex subjects coherently to diverse audiences comprising generalists and specialists. Convincing partners to agree and lead decisions within the space of a meeting.
• You will require to travel and subject to business requirement.
• Fluent in English.
