Position Summary
The Senior Drafter is responsible for producing and coordinating all technical drafting and design documentation at York Precast. This is a hands-on individual contributor role that serves as the primary technical resource for shop drawings, panel layouts, and production documentation, ensuring that all drawing outputs are accurate, production-ready, and delivered on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Drafting & Documentation:
Prepare and review shop drawings, panel layouts, embed details, connection hardware, and lifting point documentation using CAD and Revit.
Ensure all drawing packages are accurate, complete, and aligned with project specifications and applicable codes.
Maintain organized drawing records and version control across all active projects.
Develop and maintain drawing standards and templates for York Precast.
Production Coordination:
Work closely with the Plant Manager and production teams to ensure drawings are clear, executable, and available ahead of casting schedules.
Participate in production planning discussions to flag drawing readiness and resolve conflicts early.
Provide real-time technical support to the plant floor when drawing clarifications are needed.
Design Coordination & Stakeholder Communication:
Liaise with structural engineers, project managers, and clients to clarify design requirements and incorporate revisions.
Identify and communicate design or production conflicts in a timely manner.
Support estimating and project teams with technical input on drawing scope and production feasibility.
Technology & Continuous Improvement:
Maintain drafting software and support integration with supplier or client platforms as required.
Identify opportunities to improve drawing accuracy, turnaround times, and documentation consistency.
Stay current with precast industry standards, software updates, and best practices.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
3+ years of experience in precast drafting, structural drafting, or a related technical role.
Proficiency in CAD and Revit for structural and precast applications.
Working knowledge of precast production systems, panel design, connection details, and shop drawing requirements.
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards is an asset.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy.
Ability to read and interpret structural engineering drawings and specifications.
Good communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across production, project, and engineering teams.
Ability to manage multiple drawing packages and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
