Senior Director System Pharmacy Business & Outcomes provides executive leadership for UMMS’s enterprise pharmacy business operations, outcomes analytics, and centralized procurement. This role is responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability of UMMS pharmacy services by unifying contracting, 340B program optimization, and purchasing under a single system framework.

The Senior Director leads the pharmacy contracting and procurement function at the UMMS Logistics Center, consolidating purchasing across member organizations to maximize economies of scale, reduce costs, and strengthen drug access. In partnership with local site pharmacy leaders, this role develops strategies for central purchasing that enable the Logistics Center to efficiently manage automated dispensing cabinet replenishment, code cart replenishment, and drug shortage mitigation.

The Senior Director also establishes a systemwide business intelligence and outcomes platform, ensuring UMMS can measure and demonstrate the impact of pharmacy services on affordability, access, patient outcomes, and enterprise performance. This includes building advanced analytic capabilities to evaluate financial performance, cost savings, population health trends, and the system’s strategic use of the 340B program.

A critical part of this role is leading enterprise relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, GPOs, and wholesalers to optimize contracting terms, secure access to limited-distribution drugs, and drive cost savings. The Senior Director also partners with the UMMS employee health plan to align procurement and contracting strategies that improve affordability and medication access for employees.

Through disciplined execution, advanced analytics, and strategic partnerships, this leader ensures that UMMS pharmacy remains an engine for cost savings, financial sustainability, and measurable outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for UMMS pharmacy business operations, including contracting, procurement, and outcomes analytics.
• Lead pharmacy contracting and central procurement functions through the UMMS Logistics Center.
• Consolidate purchasing across member organizations to maximize economies of scale and reduce variation in procurement practices.
• Enable the Logistics Center team to manage automated dispensing cabinet replenishment, code cart replenishment, and drug shortage mitigation.
• Direct contracting strategies with pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, and GPOs to secure cost savings and drug access.
• Negotiate enterprise agreements that improve affordability while ensuring reliable supply and equitable patient access.
• Oversee enterprise 340B strategy to maximize savings, compliance, and patient benefit.
• Ensure program integrity through alignment with federal/state requirements and UMMS compliance policies.
• Establish a systemwide business intelligence platform to measure financial performance, patient outcomes, and enterprise pharmacy impact.
• Develop dashboards and analytic tools for monitoring cost savings, utilization trends, and supply chain risks.
• Collaborate with the UMMS employee health plan to design utilization and contracting strategies that reduce costs and improve access.
• Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and business plans for systemwide pharmacy business operations.
• Identify new revenue opportunities and innovative financial models to support long-term sustainability.
• Anticipate and respond to changes in drug pricing, distribution, and supply chain regulation.
• Lead enterprise initiatives to implement innovative procurement models, automation, or technology-enabled solutions.
• Partner with site pharmacy leaders, finance, supply chain, and clinical executives to align business operations across the enterprise.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop business and analytic leaders within the pharmacy enterprise.
• Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and measurable results.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience - Required

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Finance, Analytics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in pharmacy, healthcare, or life sciences business operations, including at least 3–5 years in enterprise, multi-site, or system-level roles.
• Demonstrated expertise in procurement, contracting, and vendor negotiations with pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, or group purchasing organizations (GPOs).
• Proven track record of financial management, including budget development, forecasting, ROI analysis, and performance reporting.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare finance and supply chain operations, including logistics and inventory management.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional leaders (finance, clinical, IT, supply chain) to deliver enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Experience leading or overseeing 340B program operations, with demonstrated compliance and savings optimization.

Education & Experience - Preferred

• PharmD or 340B-related certifications (e.g., Apexus Certified Expert (ACE), 340B University).
• Familiarity with health plan or payer strategy related to pharmacy utilization and affordability.
• Demonstrated success building business intelligence and analytics platforms, including dashboards and KPI reporting for financial and patient outcomes.
• History of national presentations, publications, or leadership contributions in healthcare business, pharmacy finance, or analytics.
