Senior Development Manager – Content Engineering

Reporting to the Group Director Content Engineering within our Company Metrics function.

You will lead and work with a core team who are accountable for owning, operating, and transforming our Data Bases of Record (DBoR) system estate.

The role will work closely with our partners in Content Operations and our Product Organisation. 

Additionally, you will be fully engaged in the strategic transformation focus working with our LSEG Microsoft Partnership.

Key responsibilities

• Partnering closely with our Operations users to define Data Content data products – that are scalable and re-useable aka Data as a Product.
• Will be expected to build and develop one or more small teams with emphasis of establish a talent pipeline that installs a strong engineering ethos.
• Ownership of the technical estate within your domain, including pro-active risk management of the estate such as software/hardware obsolescence, cyber risk and production stability/resiliency.
• Ability to understand the functional domain and influence the product roadmap to balance the urgency of day to day delivery vs the longer term strategic ambitions.
• Work across several internal and external partners and senior executives to ensure visibility and communication against agreed plans ensuring this is understood by executing teams.
• Risk Management – identify, coordinate and plan resolution of programme and portfolio risks.
• Problem solving and decision making – sound judgment at a senior management level using assertiveness and influencing skills to demonstrate business benefits and to ensure the decision is fully understood and accepted.

Essential Skills

• Deep technical level data experience across legacy and emerging technology stacks, passionate about transformation, data and cloud.
• Experience of supporting large-scale transformation at a Financial Markets firm, both in influencing, technical strategy and successful implementation in a hands-on capacity.
• Experience working in the Data and Analytics space with a clear understanding of operational data products.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to tailor communication for facilitating discussion and decision making. A real self-starter with the ability to make clear decisions and tackle problems, generating solutions and ultimately getting the job done.
• Proactively assess trend and risks to identify problem areas.
• Creativity and innovation: Continuously maintain an innovative approach whist operating with a set of defined internal and external communication processes

Business and sector expertise

• Experience working with large data estates and data distribution methods with strong understanding of differences between Operational Data Products and Analytical Data Products.
• Strong understanding of Product Led approach and how that aligns with a Technology application/platform.
• Experience of working in highly regulated environments (e.g. banking).
• Broad understanding of the Data Intelligence domain within Financial Markets.
• Strong financial and commercial competence with a customer driven approach.
• Knowledge of current technological trends and concepts (e.g. data mesh and fabric).
• Expertise in understanding and leading internal and supplier teams to drive efficiency in the technology organisation.
• Strong public cloud experience preferable Azure.
• Strong Lakehouse technologies experience.
• Experience in transformation of a global dispersed technology and business team.
• Strong team building skills.
• Encourage trust, handle expectations, and gain sponsorship with business, technology and senior leadership teams.
• Works with vendors to understand technical and business opportunities performing overall due diligence on third parties as needed.

• Provide leadership and driving pro-active and re-active mobilization of resources in a matrix environment.
• Able to communicate confidently and concisely with people at all levels. Technologists and non technologists, senior managers and team members. Consistent track record of translating vision/strategy into clear priorities and direction.
• Strong collaborator with the ability to develop effective partnerships with diverse partners.
• Astute at dealing with ambiguity and resilient to changing business priorities and interpersonal goals.
• Ability to develop talent through coaching and mentoring, with a passion for developing talent within wider team and beyond!
