Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Database Migration Engineer to lead the migration of our enterprise geoscience product database from SQL Anywhere to PostgreSQL. The role requires deep expertise in relational databases, hands-on migration experience, and strong SQL optimization skills to ensure data integrity, performance, and seamless integration with the existing application stack.

Job Responsibilities:

Analyze the existing SQL Anywhere database schema, objects, dependencies, and data structures.

Convert proprietary SQL Anywhere functions, stored procedures, triggers, and queries into ANSI-compliant and PostgreSQL-compatible SQL.

Redesign and optimize database schemas to align with PostgreSQL best practices.

Develop, execute, and validate data migration scripts for large production datasets.

Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency throughout and after migration.

Perform post-migration validation, reconciliation, and performance benchmarking.

Optimize indexing strategies and improve query execution performance in PostgreSQL.

Collaborate closely with application developers to integrate the migrated database with the existing application stack.

Troubleshoot migration issues and provide long-term database optimization recommendations.

Required Skills:

Strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL (or SQL Server with proven migration experience)

Advanced SQL skills, including stored procedures, triggers, constraints, and indexing

Strong understanding of query optimization, performance tuning, and execution plans

Experience working with large schemas and enterprise-scale production databases

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database and data consistency issues

Strong analytical and documentation skills

Experience:

7+ years of hands-on experience working with relational database systems

Demonstrated experience in database migration projects, preferably involving legacy systems

Experience collaborating with application development teams during database transitions

Exposure to enterprise or product-based systems with long-term data lifecycles

Education / Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field

Relevant database certifications (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.) will be a plus
