Senior Database Administrator

About this position

This role is a unique opportunity for a seasoned engineer who enjoys the intersection of stable infrastructure and modern application development. You will join a high-impact team responsible for managing critical payment operations and card processing systems.

Initially, your primary focus will be providing high-level support for our legacy MS SQL Server environment as we execute a strategic migration. This is not a "maintenance-only" dead end; rather, it is a bridge role. As we successfully migrate away from legacy systems, your focus will transition toward building and scaling our modern backend services using .NET. This role is perfect for a Senior Engineer who values data integrity, understands the stakes of high-volume financial transactions, and wants to evolve their career into a .NET ecosystem.

Special Requirement

This is a fully remote position. While the team operates across multiple time zones, you will have direct access to senior leadership and technical mentors who have deep institutional knowledge of the systems you will manage.

The impact you'll make:

Database Stewardship: Manage and maintain large-scale, self-hosted MS SQL Server clusters (up to 90TB) hosted on AWS EC2.

Safe Operations: Execute routine maintenance, OS patching, and security updates, utilizing failover and switchover procedures to ensure zero downtime during narrow maintenance windows.

Data Integrity & Recovery: Manage complex schemas, stored procedures, and replication logic, ensuring that all changes are versioned, documented, and reversible.

Infrastructure Evolution: Use your experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to manage and automate cloud environments.

Backend Development: Transition into the .NET backend stack, contributing to the development of high-performance APIs and services that interface with our core payment systems. NICE TO HAVE

Performance Engineering: Monitor and optimize database performance (CPU, Disk I/O, Blocking Queries) to ensure low-latency processing for massive data volumes.

Technology Stack:

Databases: MS SQL Server (Clusters/Self-hosted on EC2), PostgreSQL, MySQL.

Backend: .NET / C# (NICE TO HAVE).

Cloud: AWS (EC2, RDS, Lambda, ECS, S3).

IaC: Terraform.

Tools: GitHub Actions, Docker, LocalStack.

What You'll Bring To Us:

Senior-Level Engineering Mindset: 5+ years of experience in backend development or database administration, with a focus on high-availability systems.

SQL Server Proficiency: Deep understanding of SQL Server internals, including stored procedure versioning, transaction scopes, and cluster management (Failover/Failback).

AWS Infrastructure Knowledge: Practical experience managing self-hosted instances on EC2 and RDS; familiarity with serverless architectures (Lambdas).

The "Safety First" Approach: You understand the importance of manual verification and "two-sets-of-eyes" when modifying production financial data.

Adaptability: A strong desire to learn or deepen your knowledge of .NET/C#. We value your architectural experience and are happy to support your transition from other languages (like Java).

Testing Rigor: Experience with automated testing frameworks and a commitment to high code coverage and performance benchmarking.
