Together, we take ownership of our recommendation systems, continuously drive their evolution, and improve them to deliver real impact. You explore new AI-driven solutions, methods, and technologies to bring artificial intelligence even deeper into the core of our company and our journalism.

• work with a group of data scientists in the development of recommendation and personalisation models using statistical, machine learning, and data mining methodologies
• design, build, test, deploy, and operate data science and AI services end-to-end in an agile, product-focused team
• take full ownership of recommender system and AI initiatives from problem framing and data exploration to production deployment and continuous optimisation
• develop and evolve scalable ML services and pipelines that are reliable, observable, and resilient in production environments
• design, run, and analyse A/B tests to generate sustainable impact for readers and the business
• collaborate closely with software engineers, data engineers, and architects to integrate ML solutions into scalable system architectures
• continuously improve methodologies, tooling, and experimentation standards across the organisation

• several years of experience as a Data Scientist, building and deploying recommender systems in production environments
• solid understanding of modern machine learning methods and broad overview of data science best practice in your field
• strong coding skills in Python and experience writing production-quality code, working with large, complex datasets and distributed systems (e.g., Spark/PySpark, SQL); experience with Palantir Foundry is a plus
• proven experience in taking end-to-end responsibility for data science and AI projects, from requirements analysis to deployment and operations
• experience working with LLMs, modern AI systems
• strong background in designing, executing and analyzing A/B tests
• skilled in agile working and cross-functional collaboration with product and engineering teams
• excellent communication skills in English, German skills are an advantage
• solution-oriented and pragmatic mindset with a strong “just do it” mentality, focusing on delivering impact and value, learning fast, and confidently adapting to new challenges
