Senior Data Scientist, Analytical Data Product - Safety

WHY DATA SCIENCE & ANALYTICS?

The Data Science & Analytics organization's mission is to increase our speed, frequency and acumen of making decisions at scale by instilling a data-influenced approach to building products. We cover a wide area of the data spectrum including analytical data engineering, product analytics, experimentation, causal inference, statistical modeling and machine learning. Aligned and partnering with product verticals, we use this extensive tool belt to discover new opportunities and unmet use cases, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build data products and measure impact on our community of players and developers.

WHY ANALYTICAL DATA PRODUCT?

This role will work very closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and other Data Scientists to build best-in-class Safety products. Roblox has unique safety challenges in the content moderation space and in understanding user identity, and this role powers company-wide decision making about critical safety issues.

This role combines technical expertise in analytics data engineering and data science, focused on building analytics products and empowering teams with actionable insights. You will play a key role in creating foundational datasets, maintaining scalable data systems, and delivering world-class visualizations and insights to deepen our understanding of users. This role will report directly into Senior Data Science leadership. .

You Will:

• Create and manage foundational datasets that power company-wide reporting and analytics use cases.

• Build interactive data tools and dashboards to deepen our understanding of our Safety systems.

• Build production-level quality and anomaly and monitoring on some of our most critical internal models

• Scale our data foundation while maintaining high data quality, scalability, and reliability.

• Define key metric frameworks in collaboration with cross-functional partners and data scientists.

• Use your understanding of business logic and technical expertise to solve complex data challenges.

You Have:

• An Advanced or equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, or related discipline.

• 6+ years of industry or equivalent experience in Data Science and Analytics.

• 6+ years of experience with SQL and data visualization.

• 4+ years of experience in analytical engineering or similar role

• Experience with data mining, warehousing and building ETL pipelines.

• Experience working with complex datasets in the safety, social, compliance, or growth domain and/or gaming industry

• Experience in scripting languages like Python or R for data manipulation.

You Are:

• Passionate about leveraging data solutions to drive decisions and optimize business performance.

• Strive to write elegant and maintainable code, clear documentations and comfortable with picking up new technologies

• Strong product mindset and data intuition. Keen to apply analytical and data engineering skills to translate business problems into scalable engineering solutions, and experience thinking about the data itself as a product

• An expert at transforming data with SQL and a scripting language such as Python or R. You're experienced in automating efforts and crunching massive volumes of data in distributed systems using frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop or Flink.

• Motivated by impact. You find satisfaction in being able to point to direct contributions you've made to an organization. You recognize the inherent tradeoffs between further research/experimentation and productionization apply the appropriate methodology to maximize impact.

• A strong communicator. You understand that analysis must be presented in meaningful ways and engage in spirited discussions about the findings. You have the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and discuss appropriate tradeoffs.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range
$262,380—$321,230 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
