Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, mission-aligned Senior Data Science Analyst to join the Research & Evaluation Department.
The Senior Data Science Analyst will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Senior Data Science Analyst will join our Research and Evaluation team, which leverages data-driven decision-making and provides crucial insights into program effectiveness and strategic direction for HCZ’s mission-driven initiatives. The individual will be an integral part of evaluating program outcomes, maintaining data systems, and translating complex data into actionable recommendations that drive organizational strategy and measure community impact.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a combination of relevant education and equivalent professional experience. (Master’s preferred)
• At least 3-4 years of experience in a data analyst or data science role
Who You Are
• Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages is essential for data analysis, such as Python or R, including relevant libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, ggplot2).
• Advanced experience in building interactive dashboards and reports using business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
• Experience designing and implementing data warehouses, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data lakes
• Knowledge of database management systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
• Deep understanding of statistical modeling, experimental design, and causal inference methods
• Hands-on experience with machine learning algorithms, model validation, and deployment
• Experience with time series analysis, forecasting, and predictive modeling
• Knowledge of advanced analytics techniques (clustering, classification, regression, NLP)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for diverse audiences.
• Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines with meticulous attention to detail.
• Experience with project management methodologies and tools
• Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management
• Prior experience working with social impact, youth development, or community-focused organizations is a significant plus.
• You have strong technical skills in data science with a passion for using data to create a positive social impact
• You have excellent communication skills and the ability to explain data findings to both technical and non-technical teams
• You have a commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on new data science tools and methods
• You are motivated by mission-driven work and improving systems in a nonprofit, community-focused environment
What You’ll Do
• Conduct statistical analyses, predictive modeling, and machine learning to support strategic and programmatic decisions, delivering actionable insights with high accuracy standards
• Develop and maintain executive-level dashboards, automated reporting systems, and real-time monitoring tools that track organizational KPIs and program outcomes
• Produce regular analysis reports and develop dashboards that effectively communicate findings to stakeholders across the organization
• Implement end-to-end analytics projects from data preparation to dashboard launch, optimizing data processing pipelines for efficiency
• Provide technical support and training to key stakeholders while pursuing ongoing professional development in machine learning and data science technologies
• Lead complex statistical analyses, predictive modeling, and machine learning initiatives across multiple departments
• Design and implement sophisticated analytical frameworks to measure long-term community impact and program effectiveness
• Lead data governance initiatives, establishing standards for data quality, security, and access controls
• Develop training materials and documentation for data processes
• Manage and mentor junior analysts and data team members
Schedule
• Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM.
• Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days remote)

Salary
