Senior Data Engineer

About The Role

As a Senior Data Engineer at Thndr, you'll be building and scaling our data infrastructure. You'll partner with stakeholders to translate their needs into data products, design robust and automated data pipelines, and help create a unified semantic layer. You'll use a mix of open-source and cloud tools to build scalable, data-intensive solutions.

What You'll Do

• Engage with different data stakeholders to understand their challenges and translate their challenges into data products.

• Design, implement and automate robust, scalable data pipelines profile, test and automate data quality tests and engage with the different stakeholders to improve data quality.

• Model data for analytics and work with the data analytics team to help them deliver reports & dashboards.

• Help design and implement a unified semantic layer that serves as the main source for metrics in Thndr.

• Use open source tools and cloud components to design and implement scalable and robust data-intensive solutions.

• Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable big data data stores.

What You'll Need

• BS/BE/MS degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

• 5+ years of industry experience in Data Engineering.

• Solid understanding algorithms & data structures.

• Strong programming skills in Python and Java or Scala.

• Good knowledge of Extract Transform and Load/Extract, Load and Transform and reporting/analytic tools.

• Experience with data warehouses, technical architectures, and cloud data infrastructure components.

• Experience with infrastructure as code, kubernetes and containerization.

• Good knowledge of SQL and experience with at least 1 relational database, 1 document database, 1 key value store, 1 message queuing system and 1 scalable cloud-based OLAP system. Experience with a search engine is a plus.

• Good understanding of distributed systems theory.

• Good understanding of dimensional modeling is a plus.

• Experience with headless BI and Semantic Modeling is a plus.

• Exposure to modern modeling frameworks & technologies is a plus (dbt, Dataform, SQLMesh).
