We’re seeking a business-oriented Senior Counsel - Product and Privacy to serve as a key legal partner to our Product, Engineering, Clinical, and Data teams. This role will focus on enabling growth across our digital healthcare platform by advising on privacy and data governance matters throughout the product development and launch processes.

You will provide practical guidance across the full product lifecycle — from early-stage design through launch and iteration — ensuring our products reflect strong privacy, consumer protection, and data governance principles.

Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, the Senior Counsel - Product and Privacy will work closely with cross-functional leaders and stakeholders across the company.

As Senior Counsel - Product and Privacy, you will oversee:

Product Counseling

• Serve as the primary legal partner supporting product and engineering teams.

• Advise on product design, user flows, consent mechanisms, disclosures, marketing claims, and terms of use.

• Partner with teams to design and implement processes to identify legal risk and develop practical, business-aligned mitigation strategies.

• Support AI-enabled features and data-driven tools with a focus on responsible implementation and user trust.

Privacy & Data Governance

• Advise on HIPAA and other applicable U.S. privacy frameworks, as well as global privacy considerations where relevant.

• Support the continued development, operationalization, and maintenance of the company’s privacy program.

• Advise on data use, vendor data practices, and third-party integrations to ensure appropriate protections are in place.

• Draft and maintain privacy-related documentation, including policies, internal training and guidance, and related contract terms.

• Collaborate with Security and Compliance partners to align on privacy and data governance practices.

Commercial & Contract Support

• Advise on privacy and data security provisions in vendor, partner, and customer agreements, including data sharing agreements, BAAs, DPAs, and technology integration agreements.

• Manage engagements with external counterparts on data privacy matters.

• Partner with Commercial Legal to streamline privacy and product-related contracting processes.

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Work closely with Product, Engineering, Clinical, Marketing, and Operations teams to provide timely, actionable legal advice.

• Contribute to the development of scalable product review and documentation processes.

• Stay current on legal and industry developments relevant to digital health, privacy, and product innovation.

We’re looking for you to bring:

• J.D. and admission to at least one state bar

• 7+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience in technology, digital health, or similarly regulated industries

• Strong background in product counseling in a fast-paced environment, including substantial experience advising on HIPAA and broader U.S. privacy frameworks

• Experience partnering directly with product and engineering teams

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound business judgment

• Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience advising on AI-enabled or data-intensive products

• Familiarity with telehealth or digital healthcare business models

• Familiarity with laws and regulations governing employee benefit plan design, including ERISA.

• Combination of law firm and in-house experience

• Experience working in high-growth or startup environments

The base salary range for this role is $200,000 - $240,000 per year. You will also be entitled to receive equity and benefits. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, and skillset.

This role requires active work authorization in the US.

Maven embraces a flexible hybrid work model. Our teams primarily operate from the New York Metropolitan area, NY, and remotely via San Francisco/Bay Area, CA, Seattle, WA. For those in our New York City office, we encourage in-person collaboration by requiring team members to work onsite three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). For those based in San Francisco/Bay Area, CA, or Seattle, WA, we encourage in-person collaboration by requiring team members to attend quarterly Work Together Days within these cities. This policy aims to balance remote work flexibility with the benefits of face-to-face interaction.
