Job Description
Sr. Controls Engineer
Toledo, OH
100-140K + Full comprehensive package (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k). Paid Relocation
We are seeking a Sr. Controls Engineer to serve as the technical authority for automation and electrical systems at our high-volume manufacturing complex. This is a high-visibility role focused on the design, implementation, and optimization of complex control systems in a 24/7 continuous production environment.
Rather than performing routine maintenance, you will lead full-lifecycle capital projects—such as large-scale drive system replacements—and drive engineering initiatives that directly impact plant reliability and operational excellence.
Objectives
• Lead Capital Engineering Projects: Take full ownership of industrial electrical and controls projects ($100k+ scope), from initial justification and design to commissioning and vendor management.
• Optimize Complex Automation: Enhance the functionality and networking of PLC, HMI, and VFD systems. A primary focus will be overseeing the replacement of obsolete coordinated drive systems on critical production lines.
• Drive Reliability & Root Cause Analysis: Lead investigations into systemic electrical issues, implementing engineered solutions to permanently eliminate downtime and improve system responsiveness.
• Technical Mentorship: Serve as a bridge between engineering and operations, mentoring electricians, supervisors, and junior engineers to sharpen the site’s overall technical capability.
• Safety Leadership: Ensure all systems and integrations comply with NFPA 70E standards and corporate engineering specifications.

What You Bring to the Team
• Expertise: Deep proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs. Specific experience with coordinated drive systems (e.g., matlines or wind-ups) is highly preferred.
• Experience: 5–7 years of experience in controls engineering within a continuous manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET).
• Project Savvy: Proven ability to manage budgets, external contractors, and project timelines while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Communication: The ability to translate complex technical risks into actionable insights for plant leadership.
• High Autonomy: You will have the authority to shape the plant’s technical roadmap and manage full-lifecycle projects.
• Stability & Growth: Benefit from the resources of a global leader in the building materials industry and the long-term stability of a Fortune 50 parent company.
• Impact: Your work directly affects the efficiency of a critical facility, making your contributions highly visible to executive leadership.
