Senior Cloud/Platform Engineer

Your mission:
The Senior Cloud / Platform Engineer at Astrafy is a technical leader who bridges the gap between complex infrastructure and developer productivity. They move beyond simple resource provisioning to design robust, secure, and scalable cloud ecosystems, ensuring long-term maintainability and operational elegance at an architectural level. Their deep experience allows them to foresee infrastructure bottlenecks, mitigate security risks, and ensure the long-term maintainability of cloud-native solutions.

As a trusted technical advisor, they lead complex discussions with clients and prospects, translating business challenges into efficient technical roadmaps and taking ultimate responsibility for the quality of the platforms we deliver.

Responsibilities

The main responsibility is to lead the technical design, estimation, and delivery of cloud platform projects. This includes:• End-to-End Design: Leading the design of cloud architectures, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and simple to maintain.
• Project Leadership: Serving as the technical lead on projects, mentoring engineers to ensure high standards of quality and consistency.
• Pre-sales Participation: Regularly joining the sales team to assess and estimate solutions for prospects.
• Best Practices: Establishing and enforcing engineering standards and quality frameworks within the project team.
• Proactive Risk Management: Anticipating potential technical issues or scalability bottlenecks and addressing them before they surface.

Your profile:
Technical Expertise

• Architectural Mastery of Google Cloud: Expert-level ability to design end-to-end solutions using the Google Cloud stack (Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, BigQuery), with a specific focus on large-scale migrations and modernizing legacy environments. Knowledge of AWS is a significant plus.
• Advanced Infrastructure as Code (IaC): High proficiency in Terraform, focusing on creating reusable, production-grade modules and defining the global IaC strategy for complex multi-account/project setups.
• Cloud-Native & Kubernetes: Deep expertise in Kubernetes (GKE) and container orchestration, implementing GitOps best practices (e.g., ArgoCD) to ensure declarative and automated state management.
• CI/CD & Platform Automation: Designing and optimizing workflows via GitHub Actions or GitLab CI to increase deployment speed and safety.
• Platform Engineering Solutions: Expertise in building automated environment provisioning, centralized logging/monitoring, and standardized security guardrails.
• Security & Compliance: Implementation of comprehensive security frameworks, including IAM least-privilege policies, network security (VPCs, Firewalls), and proactive vulnerability scanning.

• Strategic Advisory & Pre-sales: Ability to participate in pre-sales sessions, assessing prospect challenges, estimating solution efforts, and connecting technical decisions to broader business goals.

• Trusted Client Partner: Acting as a primary advisor by explaining the "why" behind technical decisions, managing risks, and building trust through clear, proactive communication.

• Accountability & Excellence: Taking full ownership of the technical success of a project and maintaining a focus on providing quality service to our customers

Logistics & Requirements

• Languages: Fluency in Spanish and English is required. French is a strong plus.
• Location: Primary location is Madrid, where the Spanish team meets regularely in our new office, with the large majority of the work is executed remotely.
• Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe for client meetings or industry events.

 Interview process

Our interview process is sequential, and should last between 1 to 3 weeks. Each stage leads to either 

• A detailed feedback in case we decide not to move forward with your application

• A move to the next interview process stage

Interview process details:

• HR screen call ~ 30 minutes

• Technical Take-Home challenge ~ 3-4 hours

• Presentation of the technical  “Take home challenge”  ~ 30 minutes

Career Progression

As the team is growing, promotion to Cloud/Platform Team Lead is the next step. This path is for a Senior Architect who excels in technical leadership and demonstrates an interest in formal people management and growing a specialized team.
Average Duration: Typically 2-3 years at the Senior level, depending on scope of impact and readiness for architectural oversight and the team size.
