Senior Cloud Engineer (Infra & App Modernization)

We are looking for a battle-tested engineer, not just a cloud administrator. As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will own the technical delivery of complex GCP foundations and modernization projects. You are expected to operate with high autonomy—taking high-level designs from Leads/Principals and turning them into production-grade, codified infrastructure. You are the technical anchor for your squad, expected to mentor Associate Engineers and interface directly with client technical teams to resolve blockers.

You aren't just building infrastructure; you are building confidence. You must be able to explain "why" we are using a specific pattern to a client’s DevOps manager as effectively as you write the Terraform code to implement it.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering & Delivery (60%)

• Write clean, modular, and reusable Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/OpenTofu) to provision GCP resources (GKE, VPC, IAM, Cloud Run, SQL). Click-Ops in the console is strictly forbidden.

• Design and implement CI/CD workflows (Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) that enable "App Mod" objectives—moving clients from VMs to Containers or Serverless.

• configure and harden GKE clusters (Standard & Autopilot), including Service Mesh (ASM/Istio), Ingress controllers, and workload identity.

• Implement monitoring and logging stacks (Cloud Operations, Prometheus/Grafana) to ensure Day-2 operational readiness.

2. Consulting & Client Facing (20%)

• Lead specific technical sessions with client engineering teams (e.g., "How to deploy to the new GKE cluster").

• Act as the first line of defense for technical hurdles. Diagnose root causes in complex hybrid-cloud networking or permission issues without needing constant escalation to the Tribe Lead.

• Produce high-quality "As-Built" documentation and runbooks. Your job isn't done until the client can operate what you built.

3. Mentorship & Tribe Growth (20%)

• Enforce quality standards on code produced by Associate Engineers. You are the quality gatekeeper.

• Actively involve Associate Engineers in your tasks to facilitate their growth into Seniors.

Must-Have Technical Skills:

• 5+ years in IT, with at least 3+ years of deep, hands-on experience specifically with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Expert-level Terraform skills. You must understand state management, modules, and providers deeply.

• Strong command of Docker and Kubernetes (GKE). You understand the difference between a Pod, a Deployment, and a StatefulSet, and when to use each.

• Proficiency in Bash and at least one structured language (Python or Go) for automation tasks.

• Solid understanding of CIDR, Subnetting, VPC Peering, VPN, and Interconnects.

Professional Attributes:

• Ability to navigate ambiguity. Clients often don't know what they want; you need to decipher requirements and propose technical solutions.

• Professional working proficiency (Written & Spoken) is mandatory for global collaboration.

• Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Data Engineer (Must be active or obtained within 3 months of joining).

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience with Anthos/GDC (Google Distributed Cloud).

• Background in Application Development (Java/Node.js) to better empathize with App Mod challenges.

• Experience with other clouds (AWS/Azure) to facilitate migration discussions.
