We are looking for a Senior Clinical Simulation Technician to provide advanced clinical technical support for senior medical and health sciences undergraduate students (medical, nursing, optometry, and pharmacy), postgraduate students, and various healthcare professionals, covering a wide range of internal and external courses and workshops. The Simulation Centre for Patient Safety (SCPS) in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, at the University of Auckland provides for the healthcare simulation needs of students and a wide range of healthcare professionals, with the ability to provide outreach activities at clinical sites. Their goal is to improve patient safety through simulation-based education and research.

You will liaise directly with stakeholders, convenors, course directors and course coordinators to provide specialist and substantive support for academics and students on a variety of teaching and research activities at the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety (SCPS). Key responsibilities:

• Provide specialist clinical skill training and technical expertise to support undergraduate, postgraduate, and medical professional teaching programmes and specialised courses.
• Provide technical perspective assistance on the appropriate design of new learning activities and revising some current courses within the clinical simulation curriculum and medical programmes.
• Maintain up-to-date technical expertise within the relevant discipline, including knowledge of instrumentation, clinical practice techniques and skills.
• Assist the SCPS Technical Team Leader to oversee the process for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Centre.
• Ensuring teaching and learning resources are set up and available in advance of teaching events.

This is a part-time (7.5h per week), fixed term position until the end of 2026.

The successful candidate will bring a blend of hands-on clinical expertise and a commitment to supporting high quality simulation-based teaching. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively with academic and technical teams, is confident engaging with learners, and is motivated by creating safe and effective learning environments. You will bring:

• Tertiary qualification in a health-science, or engineering field.
• Recent clinical experience as either a nurse, paramedic, anaesthetic technician or allied health professional
• Experience in the use of and resolving difficult technical issues in a clinical practice environment
• Experience in medical education, clinical coaching or in-service education
• Demonstrable experience in coaching and mentoring
• Excellent communication skills
