We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead the technical design and oversight of large-scale civil site infrastructure projects within port and marine environments. This role will be responsible for guiding multidisciplinary civil-site design efforts across projects including storage facilities, utility and office buildings, wharfs, loading docks, roadways, sidewalks, and associated infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will bring strong end-to-end project experience spanning conceptual planning, detailed design, project engineering, and construction, with demonstrated coordination of environmental planning and regulatory requirements.
This position plays a critical role in delivering high-impact infrastructure projects that support port operations, logistics, and regional economic development while ensuring environmental compliance and long-term resilience
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the technical design and engineering of civil site development projects in marine and port environments.
• Oversee design and integration of:• Marine structures (e.g., wharfs, docks, bulkheads)
• Site infrastructure (grading, drainage, roadways, sidewalks)
• Industrial facilities (storage sites, loading docks, utility buildings, office buildings)
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and design staff.
• Act as the Engineer of Record and ensure design compliance with applicable standards, codes, and permit requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design efforts including structural, geotechnical, environmental, and marine engineering teams.
• Manage the transition from conceptual design through detailed design, permitting, and construction support.
• Collaborate with environmental consultants and agencies to support environmental planning, permitting, and compliance (e.g., coastal, wetlands, dredging permits).
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
• Conduct site visits, inspections, and construction oversight to ensure adherence to design intent.
• Interface directly with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
• Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies related to site conditions, constructability, and environmental constraints.
Minimum: 
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) and 8  years of related civil engineering design experience, including civil site design, project engineering, construction phase support/oversight or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Professional Engineer (PE) license 
• Expereince in relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar).
• Experience in grading, drainage, stormwater management, and site design principles.
• Current holder of, or have no restrictions to obtain, Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Preferred:
 
• Experience with large-scale industrial or logistics facilities.
• Background in construction management or contractor coordination.
• Experience working with federal, state, or port authorities.
• Demonstrated experience with port, marine, or waterfront infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience coordinating with environmental planning and permitting processes.
• Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., AASHTO, ASCE, local/state regulations, coastal engineering guidelines).
• Experience with marine structural coordination (e.g., pile-supported systems, quay walls).
• Knowledge of resiliency design for coastal environments (e.g., flood protection, sea level rise considerations).
• Occasional travel to project sites and client locations
• Relocation is an option for this position
