Engineering Delivery Manager
Role Overview
The Engineering Delivery Manager is responsible for orchestrating the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex engineering initiatives. This role acts as the bridge between engineering teams, product management, and business stakeholders to ensure high‑quality outcomes are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with strategic objectives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical understanding with exceptional delivery, leadership, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Leadership
• Own end‑to‑end delivery for engineering programmes and projects, ensuring milestones, quality standards, and KPIs are met.
• Build and maintain roadmap visibility, delivery timelines, and release plans across multiple engineering teams.
• Identify delivery risks and dependencies early; implement mitigation strategies and communicate impact to stakeholders.
Stakeholder & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Product, Architecture, QA, and Business teams to clarify requirements, prioritise work, and align on objectives.
• Facilitate effective communication between technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ensure teams have clarity of scope, success metrics, and technical constraints.
Engineering Process & Excellence
• Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes, workflows, and delivery frameworks (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid models).
• Promote best practices around code quality, DevOps, testing, observability, and resilience.
• Monitor throughput, quality trends, and operational performance; lead structured retrospectives.
Team Leadership & Support
• Support engineering leads in capacity planning, resource allocation, and workload balancing.
• Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and high performance.
• Mentor teams in delivery discipline, planning accuracy, and technical agility.
Governance & Reporting
• Manage delivery governance, documentation, and status reporting to senior leadership.
• Track budgets, delivery metrics, and operational KPIs.
• Ensure compliance with organisational standards, technical guidelines, and regulatory requirements where applicable.
Required Skills & Experience
• Proven experience delivering complex engineering or technology programmes in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong understanding of software engineering, cloud platforms, and modern development practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Expertise in Agile delivery methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe or similar).
• Ability to analyse technical risks, make data‑driven decisions, and manage competing priorities.
• Experience working with distributed engineering teams is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• Certifications in Agile delivery (CSM, PSM, PMI‑ACP) or project/programme management (PMP, PRINCE2).
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, microservices, cloud-native tooling, and observability practices.
