This is a full-cycle bookkeeping role — hands-on, detail-driven, and process-focused. You will be responsible for maintaining clean, accurate, and audit-ready books across multiple client accounts, working independently within a structured remote environment. This role suits someone who is not just task-focused but genuinely quality-focused, proactive, and accountable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for Australian small business clients across multiple industries
• Perform bank reconciliations on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable accurately and on time
• Support BAS preparation in line with ATO requirements (where experienced)
• Process payroll for clients as required (highly valued)
• Maintain accurate financial records across cloud-based accounting systems — Xero, MYOB, and/or QuickBooks Online
• Ensure all transactions are correctly coded, categorised, and reconciled
• Prepare and support monthly financial reporting for internal review
• Liaise with the internal team promptly when clarification is needed on client transactions or records
• Maintain clean, organised, and audit-ready books across all client files at all times
• Proactively flag issues, discrepancies, or delays without waiting to be chased
Requirements:
MUST HAVE:
• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on bookkeeping experience, preferably supporting Australian clients
• Proficiency in Xero is required
• Proficiency in MYOB and/or QuickBooks Online (QBO) is strongly preferred
• Advanced Excel and/or Google Sheets skills
• Strong working knowledge of bookkeeping principles, Australian GST, and general compliance requirements
• Experience working with Australian small business clients across varying industries
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all financial records
• Ability to manage multiple clients and tasks simultaneously without constant supervision
• Strong time management skills and a consistent track record of meeting deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
PREFERRED SKILLS (nice to have)
• Experience with BAS preparation and an understanding of ATO reporting obligations
• Exposure to payroll processing under Australian payroll regulations
• Familiarity with cloud accounting integrations and add-on tools (e.g., Dext, Hubdoc, Receipt Bank)
• Experience working within an Australian accounting or bookkeeping firm servicing multiple SME clients
• Certificate IV in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or a related qualification (advantageous but not required)
