At Hive, we handle impressive technical scale: ingesting high-volume data in real-time from 20+ integrations (including Ticketmaster and Eventbrite), storing and querying billions of customer data points, and delivering over 200 million emails and SMS messages monthly to our clients' customers. Our platform runs entirely on AWS, with a backend technology stack that includes Python, Django, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Clickhouse, Redis, and a comprehensive suite of AWS services.

We're seeking a Senior Backend Software Development Engineer to solve hard problems, and to enable exceptional customer experiences at scale.

The Role

As a Senior Backend Software Development Engineer at Hive, you'll design, build, and maintain critical services and integrations that power our product ecosystem. This role focuses on developing scalable foundational services that enable our engineering teams to deliver value efficiently and predictably.

Tech Stack

AWS, Docker, Python, Django, MySQL, MongoDB, Clickhouse, Redis, Elasticsearch, DataDog, Sentry.

What You'll Do

• Design and build robust backend services that enable Hive's marketing platform to scale

• Own features end-to-end, from architecture and implementation through deployment and production support

• Build and optimize high-throughput data pipelines processing billions of customer data points

• Collaborate with product teams to design scalable APIs and integrate with external platforms like Ticketmaster and Shopify

• Enhance application performance and reliability across the stack

• Implement comprehensive monitoring and observability for the services you build

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years building backend services and APIs at scale

• Strong experience with AWS (or similar cloud platforms)

• Demonstrated expertise in Python/Django, database design, API design, distributed systems

• Experience owning production services, including participating in on-call rotations and incident response

• Experience with high-volume data processing and real-time systems

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and explain complex technical concepts clearly

Bonus Qualifications

• Proven experience scaling complex AWS environments and optimizing performance across the full technology stack during periods of significant growth

• Track record of implementing and improving SLOs and observability solutions for backend services

• Leadership experience in establishing and improving incident management processes
