(Senior) Avionics Test Engineer (m/f/d)

Mission Brief

As a (Senior) Avionics Test Engineer within the Test Operations Germany Team, you will support the development, qualification and acceptance testing of avionics units and subsystems for our launch vehicle. You will work at the interface between environmental testing and avionics functional testing, ensuring that dedicated electrical test rigs operate reliably during demanding test campaigns.
You will be working closely with avionics hardware owners, environmental test engineers and test operators, helping to identify failure modes, improve test setups and ensure high-quality test execution and reporting.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

• Plan, prepare and execute functional testing of avionics hardware during thermal, thermal-vacuum and vibration test campaigns.

• Develop, commission, maintain and improve electrical test rigs according to test requirements and changing hardware needs

• Troubleshoot and debug electrical cabinets, harnesses, instrumentation, interfaces and unit-to-rig interactions.

• Create and improve test procedures, automated sequences and reporting standards in alignment with system and unit owners.

• Post-process and evaluate test data, document anomalies and write reports according to internal standards.

• Maintain, calibrate and upgrade test equipment while ensuring safe and reliable operation during test campaigns.

• Identify bottlenecks in current workflows and contribute to increasing test automation, repeatability and throughput.

Qualification Checklist

• Sc. / M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics or similar.

• 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical, avionics or automated test engineering.

• Experience in designing, commissioning and operating electrical test rigs or laboratory test setups.

• Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical systems, wiring, instrumentation and communication interfaces.

• Experience with test automation and integration of test equipment via analog and digital interfaces such as RS422/485, Ethernet or USB.

• Structured and reliable way of working, with high quality and safety standards.

• Knowledge of Python, MATLAB, C/C++ or similar tools for automation and analysis.

• Fluent in English, written and spoken.

Bonus Skills

• Experience in environmental testing for aerospace hardware.

• Hands-on experience with Beckhoff, PLCs, EtherCAT or similar automation platforms

• Understanding of Aerospace test standards such SMCS, RCC etc. and command over it to perform test requirement tailoring
