OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Accountant who thrives in a high-autonomy environment where "street smarts" and critical thinking are valued as much as technical expertise. This is a dedicated back-office production role designed for a professional who loves the logic of complex accounting and wants to own the "engine room" of the firm without the distraction of client-facing management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Complex File Management: Execute full-cycle accounting and tax preparation for sophisticated group structures, including interconnected family trusts, companies, and high-net-worth individuals.
• Sophisticated Money Tracing: Analyze and reconcile inter-entity loans and movements of funds across complex groups to ensure absolute accuracy in tax positioning.
• Tax Compliance & Planning: Prepare tax returns and financial statements while staying ahead of strict Australian statutory deadlines and quarterly reconciliation cycles.
• Independent Problem Solving: Identify anomalies in client data and proactively resolve them; you are expected to look "beyond the numbers" to understand the business logic.
• Software Mastery: Utilize MYOB (primary), Xero, BGL, and QuickBooks to maintain clean, efficient, and audit-ready files.
• Process Optimization: Continuously improve back-office workflows to ensure maximum efficiency in the production cycle.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience: 5–6 years of dedicated experience within an Australian Public Practice firm.
• Technical Expertise: Proven mastery of the Australian tax system and statutory reporting requirements.
• Software Proficiency: Deep, hands-on experience with MYOB (essential), Xero, BGL, and QuickBooks.
• Complex Structures: Demonstrated ability to manage multi-entity groups and understand the nuances of trust accounting and tax planning.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CA or CPA qualification (or progress toward) is highly regarded.
PREFERRED SKILLS (nice to have):
• SMSF Capability: Experience with Self-Managed Super Fund administration and compliance.
• Data Intuition: An "investigative" mindset—the ability to spot a missing transaction or a misplaced figure before the software flags it.
• Communication: Strong internal communication skills to provide brief, clear updates to leadership.
