As our business continues to grow, we are seeking a talented professional to help expand our royalty audit capabilities in the music industry and support high-impact projects with global clients. In this role, you will play a key role within our engagement teams, leveraging your auditing expertise and music industry knowledge to support and manage royalty compliance audits for major music and entertainment companies.
You will contribute across all phases of the audit lifecycle—from planning and data analysis through reporting—while maintaining the highest standards of quality and client service. Responsibilities:
Support and execute royalty compliance audits for clients in the music industry, including record labels, music publishers, and digital streaming services, across all phases of the audit process from planning and fieldwork to reporting.
Interpret music industry contracts and licensing agreements—such as recording, publishing, and distribution deals—to evaluate royalty obligations and assess financial compliance.
Analyze royalty statements and large datasets using Excel and other analytical tools to verify payment accuracy, identify underreported royalties, and prepare audit schedules and supporting calculations.
Participate in or manage multiple audit engagements simultaneously while coordinating with team members across regions and time zones to ensure projects remain on schedule and within scope.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and client stakeholders, including legal, finance, and operational teams, to gather documentation, conduct interviews, and communicate audit progress.
Support the preparation of audit reports, summaries of findings, and supporting documentation used in settlement discussions or claim resolutions.
Review workpapers and provide guidance to junior associates where applicable, helping ensure the accuracy and quality of deliverables.
Stay informed on industry trends and developments in the music and broader entertainment sectors that impact royalty accounting and compliance.
Contribute to improving Connor’s royalty audit methodologies, tools, and best practices.
Travel occasionally to client sites or industry events (up to approximately 25%) to conduct on-site procedures or collaborate directly with clients.
Requirements:
Experience and Background
A minimum of 4–6 years of relevant experience for Senior Associate candidates, and 6–8+ years for Manager-level candidates, in audit, accounting, finance, or consulting.
Direct exposure to royalty audits, royalty accounting, or financial analysis within the music or entertainment industry is highly desirable.
Prior experience in a Big Four firm or consulting environment is strongly preferred.
Music Industry Knowledge
Strong understanding of music royalty structures and audit practices.
Experience working with record label royalty statements, music publishing income, or digital streaming revenue data is highly advantageous.
Exposure to broader media sectors such as film, television, or gaming is a plus.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
CPA, MBA, or other relevant certifications are a plus but not required.
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and analysis of large datasets.
Experience with data analytics tools such as Access, SQL, or BI platforms is a plus.
Familiarity with music royalty systems or databases used by performing rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc.) is beneficial but not required.
Analytical Ability
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex contractual language and translate it into quantitative insights.
Ability to work with detailed financial data and draw clear, actionable conclusions.
Communication
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to present complex financial and contractual information clearly to both clients and internal teams.
Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
