A Senior Associate Director is responsible for leading a team of professionals in developing and implementing research programs, managing budgets, and overseeing faculty collaborations.

Job Description

Founded in 1842, the University of Notre Dame is a leading American research university that offers a distinctive voice in higher education. As a Catholic institution with a strong tradition of faith and intellectual inquiry, Notre Dame is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the common good.

Located in Notre Dame, Indiana, the University is home to a vibrant campus community of students, faculty, and staff who are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment and advancing the University’s mission to be a force for good in the world. With world-class facilities, renowned academic programs, and a deep commitment to innovation and ethical leadership, Notre Dame provides a dynamic and rewarding workplace for those who seek to make a meaningful impact.

The evolution of the Office of Undergraduate Education has resulted in the need for a new Center for Academic Transformation and Excellence, which will open to undergraduates in Fall 2026. CATE is a bold step forward on the University’s path to provide an unsurpassed undergraduate education that is responsive to the changing needs of students and the world.

The Center for Academic Transformation and Excellence is a central hub within the Office of Undergraduate Education where students from all colleges, schools, and years can easily access learning resources and academic engagement services that foster deep, active, and intentional learning. CATE's knowledgeable, professional educators accompany students on their academic journeys through individualized discernment and scholarly engagement advising, academic mentoring, and holistic support. CATE also builds mutually supportive communities that promote academic excellence through its peer-facilitated study groups and cohort-based scholars programs. CATE’s broad suite of programs and services supplements the robust and highly effective, yet often more narrowly targeted, academic advising and learning resources provided by the colleges and schools. Similarly, CATE’s academically- focused student accompaniment complements the Division of Student Affairs’ faith and formation, health and well-being, and belonging and engagement offerings.

CATE integrates into one organization programs and services that mostly functioned independently from each other in the past, even though they were all part of the Office of Undergraduate Education. As a consolidated organization under the leadership of an Executive Director, CATE is able to coordinate the operations and strategy of its constituent programs and services, improving the student experience by increasing the accessibility, efficacy, and efficiency of critical academic support and engagement services.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement Initiatives, the Senior Associate Director, Undergraduate Learning Resources, oversees the execution of existing academic support services (peer-facilitated study groups, tutoring, and study skills mentoring) and envisions new services and partnerships to strengthen undergraduate learning at the University, in keeping with the strategic plan of the Center for Academic Transformation and Excellence (CATE).

CATE, which is housed in the Office of Undergraduate Education in the Office of the Provost, encompasses all student-facing academic support programs and services currently housed in Undergraduate Education. These programs and services belong to one of three pillars: Undergraduate Learning and Academic Engagement Services, Undergraduate Scholars Programs, and Academic Services for Student-Athletes.

The Senior Associate Director will lead the Office of Undergraduate Learning Resources, one of three units within the Undergraduate Learning and Academic Engagement pillar alongside the Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement and the Academic Discernment and Exploration Office. In collaboration with the Senior Associate Director of Finance and Operations for Undergraduate Education, the Senior Associate Director manages the budget for the Office of Undergraduate Learning Resources; builds and maintains relationships with key faculty and administrators in the Colleges and Schools to ensure that the Center’s academic support services are integrated into the University’s community of learning; and supervises the three other members of the Office of Learning Resources team.

In addition, the Senior Associate Director advocates for CATE’s academic support services and represents CATE’s academic support services at relevant regional and national conferences. Finally, the Senior Associate Director synthesizes and reports qualitative and quantitative data on CATE’s academic support services and contributes to the stewardship of CATE’s resources alongside other leaders within the Center.
