Serve as an enterprise infrastructure architecture leader who builds upon deep, demonstrated expertise across both core infrastructure and cloud platforms to define, evolve, and operationalize AbbVie’s infrastructure and platform strategy. This role is intended for senior architects who have not only designed and delivered complex infrastructure solutions, but who have translated hard-won experience from challenging modernization and transformation programs into durable enterprise roadmaps, standards, and reference architectures. 

 

The Senior Infrastructure Architect acts as both a hands-on infrastructure platform expert and a technical authority and strategic advisor, shaping infrastructure direction across domains while ensuring alignment to Enterprise Architecture, security, compliance, and business outcomes. Success in this role requires the ability to operate at multiple altitudes — applying deep solution-level judgment when needed, while also exercising enterprise-level influence to guide peers and stakeholders toward coherent, modern infrastructure platforms that scale with AbbVie’s ambitions. 

Responsibilities 

• Define and advance enterprise infrastructure and platform strategies that span cloud platforms and core infrastructure, translating long-term business and technology goals into actionable architectural roadmaps. 

• Provide architectural leadership across major programs and initiatives, ensuring infrastructure designs are cohesive, future-ready, and aligned to enterprise standards and operating models. 

• Establish and articulate ‘what good looks like’ for infrastructure architecture through reference architectures, design patterns, and decision frameworks that teams can consistently apply. 

• Serve as a senior architectural authority in governance and design forums, clearly framing trade-offs, risks, and recommendations to influence outcomes across peer architects, engineering leaders, and stakeholders. 

• Comfortably engage in candid architectural debate, using evidence, experience, and enterprise context to drive alignment, resolve ambiguity, and achieve outcomes. 

• Guide the evolution of hybrid and cloud infrastructure platforms, balancing modernization, resilience, security, compliance, and cost efficiency in complex, regulated environments. 

• Partner closely with application, data, security, DevOps, and enterprise architecture teams to ensure infrastructure strategy is tightly integrated with broader platform and delivery ecosystems. 

• Mentor and develop architects and senior technologists, raising overall architectural maturity, platform thinking, and modern architecture practices across the organization. 

• Monitor emerging infrastructure and cloud trends, assessing relevance and incorporating them pragmatically into AbbVie’s infrastructure strategy and standards. 

• Ensure adherence to corporate and divisional policies, including GxP, data security, and infrastructure lifecycle management, embedding compliance into architectural decisions by design. 

• Bachelor’s Degree with 9 years of relevant experience; Master’s Degree with 8 years; or PhD with 4 years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or platform architecture roles. Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals preferred. 

• Demonstrated leadership in designing and executing infrastructure strategies across both cloud platforms and traditional core infrastructure, including large-scale hybrid environments. 

• Proven ability to develop multi-year architectural roadmaps and technology strategies and use them to influence peers, delivery teams, and senior stakeholders. 

• Deep expertise in modern infrastructure and platform architecture practices, including cloud-native and hybrid design, automation, DevOps enablement, resilience engineering, and security-by-design. 

• Track record of successfully guiding organizations through complex modernization or transformation programs involving legacy systems, technical debt, and organizational change. 

• Strong enterprise influence skills, with demonstrated comfort operating in governance forums, architectural review boards, and ambiguous problem spaces. 

• Ability to articulate complex architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, driving alignment and informed decision-making. 

• Recognized as a trusted architectural leader and mentor, with a passion for elevating architectural rigor, platform thinking, and modern practices across teams. 

• Strong experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Computing Platform.

• This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​
