Senior Anti-Fraud Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Anti-Fraud Engineer who can help us detect, prevent, and respond to fraud across the Apify platform - while keeping the experience smooth for legitimate users.

What you’ll be working on:

• Design and run fraud detection systems to protect signups, payments, usage, and marketplace activity.

• Build and refine risk models, rules, and signals that stop abuse in real time.

• Investigate new attack patterns and deploy mitigations quickly.

• Develop internal tools and processes to support incident response and investigations.

• Collaborate with Product, Security, and Finance to balance safety with user experience.

• Document and share playbooks for common attack types.

They say there are no perfect candidates, but you might be the one if you have:

• Hands-on experience in fraud prevention or trust & safety, ideally at scale.

• Strong engineering background with a focus on reliability and problem-solving.

• Ability to analyze complex signals and turn them into actionable detection logic.

• Proactive, practical, and comfortable taking ownership.

• Good communicator who can explain trade-offs and document decisions.

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with payment systems, chargebacks, or abuse prevention in SaaS/marketplaces.

• Experience with identity, account integrity, or bot detection.

Our tech stack:

• Frontend: React.js, styled-components, Storybook, Cypress, Playwright

• Backend: TypeScript/Node.js, Next.js, Nest.js, Express.js, Docusaurus, Jest

• Infra: AWS, Kubernetes, Helm, MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, S3, GitHub Actions

• Monitoring: Grafana, Prometheus, Mezmo, Sentry, PagerDuty

• Tools: GitHub, ZenHub, Notion, Google Workspace

• Process: two-week sprints, code reviews, tests, automating whatever we can, and deploying multiple times per day.

By the end of the first 3 months, we expect you to:

• Understand the Apify platform end-to-end and ship your own Actor

• Ship your first detection rule or risk signal that’s actively preventing fraud

• Build solid working relationships with the product team that you will be working with.

• Identify the 3 highest-impact gaps in our fraud prevention and propose solutions.

By the end of the first 6 months, we expect you to:

• Investigate fraud incidents independently.

• Own at least two fraud vectors end-to-end (e.g., payments and account abuse)

• Ship 3-5 detection improvements that measurably reduce fraud without hurting legitimate users.

• Build a strong working relationship with the rest of the Product team and the Data engineering/analytics team.

• Present a clear roadmap for the next 6-12 months of fraud prevention work.
