Job Description
OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Manager, Data Insights & Optimization, the Senior Analyst, Data Insights & Optimization is a hands-on expert in translating complex data into clear, actionable insights through high-quality business intelligence products. This role is focused on designing, building, and maintaining enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards powered by curated data from the organization’s data warehouse.
You must be fluent in SQL and experienced working with dimensional models in modern data warehouse environments. You bring advanced Power BI skills (data modeling, DAX, Power Query, performance optimization) and can independently take a dashboard from concept to production. With a strong continuous improvement mindset and comfort working in Agile teams, you proactively streamline processes, automate recurring workflows, and help standardize best practices for reporting and analytics across the organization.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate successful cross-functional collaboration to understand business questions, build trusted metrics, and optimize decisions related to performance, cost, risk, and the circular economy.
This is a salary paid position, requiring residency in Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Intelligence Solution Design & Delivery
Design, build, and maintain robust Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models that support operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic decision-making.
Work end-to-end: requirements gathering, data exploration, data modeling, dashboard design, user acceptance, training, and production rollout.
Develop and optimize SQL queries against the data warehouse to source, transform, and validate the data feeding BI products.
Implement and maintain Power BI best practices (star-schema modeling, DAX measures, row-level security, documentation, and performance tuning).
Data Warehousing & Data Quality
Partner with Data Engineering and other technical teams to ensure data warehouse tables, views, and models meet reporting and analytics needs.
Profile and validate data to identify quality issues, gaps, and inconsistencies; work with stakeholders to resolve them.
Contribute to the definition of standardized, governed metrics and KPIs, ensuring consistency across reports and dashboards.
Insights, Analysis & Optimization
Translate business questions into analytical approaches, leveraging the data warehouse and BI tools to deliver clear, actionable insights.
Build recurring and ad-hoc analytical views that highlight trends, variances, and drivers behind key performance indicators.
Support optimization initiatives (e.g., improving program performance, cost efficiency, service levels) through scenario analysis, root-cause exploration, and data-driven recommendations.
Continuous Improvement & Ways of Working
Champion a continuous improvement mindset: identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes, reduce manual effort, and increase automation.
Contribute to standard templates, reusable data models, and visual design guidelines that improve speed and consistency of BI delivery.
Work within Agile ways of working (sprints, backlogs, stand-ups), providing transparent updates on progress, risks, and dependencies.
Stakeholder Engagement & Enablement
Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements, co-design mock-ups, and iterate on dashboards based on feedback.
Present insights in a clear, business-friendly way, tailoring depth and technical detail to executive, operational, and technical audiences.
Develop and deliver training materials (how-to guides, demos, knowledge-base content) to help business users self-serve and better understand BI tools and metrics
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Post-secondary education / Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
5+ years of progressive experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field, with a strong focus on dashboard development and reporting.
Proven track record designing, building, and maintaining Power BI dashboards and data models with minimal supervision.
Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and validating data in a data warehouse environment.
Hands-on experience working with modern data warehouses (e.g., AWS Redshift, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, or similar) and dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas).
Experience optimizing BI solutions for performance, including query tuning, model design, and Power BI performance best practices.
Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments is preferred.
Prior experience in the recycling industry, producer responsibility, utilities, public sector, or other regulated/reporting-heavy environments is an asset

Innovative and curious: brings creative ideas for new metrics, visualizations, and ways to deliver insights.
Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complex data and analytics findings for non-technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with high attention to detail and data quality.
