About the Role
The Corporate Controller’s Group is the central finance organization within Gap Inc. that is responsible for the several functions related to the financial reporting and close process, including Accounting Policies. Through critical thinking, research and analysis, and partnership with the business, we support key financial decisions and manage the library of accounting policies which follow U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
As a Senior Analyst on the Accounting Policies team, you will play a key role in maintaining and advancing Gap Inc.’s accounting policy framework. In this role, you will support the development, documentation, and governance of accounting policies in response to changes in U.S. GAAP, evolving business processes, and new initiatives across the enterprise.
What You'll Do
• Maintain and enhance the global accounting policies database, ensuring timely updates for business changes, new initiatives, and newly issued accounting standards.
• Perform comprehensive technical accounting research on a wide range of U.S. GAAP topics and emerging issues.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional finance and operational teams to provide clear accounting guidance and support consistent application of complex standards across the organization.
• Prepare well‑supported technical accounting memos that clearly articulate analysis, conclusions, and recommended treatments for internal and external audiences.
• Contribute to special projects involving new policies, technical matters, and cross‑functional accounting initiatives.
• Participate in AI-driven process improvement efforts to streamline policy governance, drive efficiency, and support innovation within the controllership function.
• Support quarterly close and earnings‑related activities.
Who You Are
• 2+ years of public accounting experience required
• CPA license or certification in-process required
• Strong technical accounting research skills and familiarity with accounting research tools.
• Detail oriented with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly and concisely.
• Analytical, proactive self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Collaborative team player with a positive attitude and emerging leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently within very tight deadlines
• Experience with Microsoft Copilot or other AI platforms is a plus
