Senior AI / LLM Engineer (m/f/d)

Your team:
We are looking for an experienced Senior AI/LLM Engineer (m/f/d) to join our Digital Engineering business unit. This business unit combines deep engineering with modern technology to deliver engineering tools that empower automotive teams to design, test and validate advanced vehicle functions and complex automotive systems

You will support our company in the selection, integration, and further development of Large Language Models (LLMs) and agent-based AI systems.

In this role, you will play a key part in the technical implementation of our AI/LLM projects and in building knowledge within the company.

You will work at the interface of research, system architecture, and project practice—and help shape how AI solutions will be used in our customer projects in the future.

Your mission:
• Selection and setup of suitable LLMs for different use cases
• Consulting and implementation of prompt engineering strategies depending on the model and context
• Guidance and support for data synthesis and training data creation
• Participation in specific customer and research projects (e.g., knowledge representation models, agentic AI architectures, or the evaluation of AI components)
• Development and dissemination of AI expertise within the company – training, internal workshops, project integration
• Active monitoring of the AI/LLM market and integration of new developments into the company strategy

Your profile:
• You have a successfully completed degree in computer science or a comparable successfully completed apprenticeship
• You are self-confident and like to contribute creative ideas, you enjoy working in a team and open communication is a matter of course for you

Must-have::
• Solid knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs): architecture, fine-tuning, API integration
• Experience with prompt engineering, context management, and model guidance
• Technical setup of LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Llama 2/3, Falcon, etc.)
• Good understanding of software architectures (APIs, containerization, data pipelines, security)
• Programming skills (Python, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or comparable frameworks)
• Systematic and analytical thinking, strong ability for structured problem-solving
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to various stakeholders
• Excellent written and spoken German and English

Nice-to-have::
• Experience with Agentic AI systems / Multi-Agent Architectures (MCP)
• Knowledge of knowledge representation
• Experience in integrating knowledge systems into LLM-based applications
• Experience with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and vector databases
• Knowledge of data synthesis and synthetic data generation (text or multimodal data)
• Experience with knowledge graphs, RDF/SPARQL, OWL, or similar technologies
• Experience in system-level testing of AI components
• Background in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or Cognitive Architectures
• Knowledge of cloud environments with a focus on AI services
• Experience in the technological training of teams or as an AI evangelist
