The Automated Enforcement Unit (AEU) is part of the Division of Traffic Operations at the NYC Department of Transportation. AEU manages four automated enforcement programs: red light, bus lane, speed, and Weigh-in-Motion (WIM). Automated enforcement is a core component of the Mayor’s Vision Zero initiative, and recent legislative changes require rapid program expansion and modernization.
AEU is seeking a Confidential Strategic Advisor to support senior leadership in advancing agency priorities and strategic initiatives. This position will play a key role in shaping, coordinating, and implementing high-level policy, planning, and programmatic efforts related to automated enforcement and Vision Zero.
Under the administrative direction of an agency executive, the Confidential Strategic Advisor will exercise a high degree of independent judgment and discretion while supporting complex initiatives that cut across divisions and external partners. This role is responsible for translating leadership priorities into actionable strategies, coordinating implementation efforts, and ensuring alignment with agency goals.
- Support the Assistant Commissioner and senior leadership in developing and advancing strategic initiatives, policies, and long-term program goals.
- Prepare briefing materials, analyses, and recommendations to inform executive decision-making.
- Lead and coordinate cross-agency projects, establishing goals, timelines, and performance benchmarks.
- Provide oversight and coordination for complex initiatives involving multiple internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Research best practices, evaluate program performance, and develop recommendations for process improvements or new initiatives.
- Represent the agency in meetings, working groups, and interagency discussions related to strategic planning and program development.
- Maintain strong working relationships with agency leadership and partner organizations to support implementation and coordination efforts.
- This role is ideal for a strategic, detail-oriented professional with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, policy-driven environment and support the continued growth and modernization of NYC DOT’s automated enforcement programs.

Hours/Shift: 35 Hrs./Mon-Fri/ 9:00am-5:00pm
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.
