Senior Accountant

A growing organization is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Senior Accountant to join its team in Gaithersburg, MD. This position plays a key role in managing day-to-day accounting operations and supporting month-end close processes, financial reporting, and cross-functional initiatives.

Responsibilities :
•
Perform month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and variance analysis

•
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data through proper reconciliation of all accounts and subledgers

•
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports, including detailed analysis of variances to budget

•
Complete cash reconciliations and ensure proper recording of all cash activity

•
Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the trial balance and investigate discrepancies

•
Track and record fixed assets, including depreciation schedules

•
Account for inventory adjustments based on periodic physical counts

•
Support oversight of Accounts Receivable and Payroll functions to ensure accuracy and completeness

•
Prepare journal entries related to employee benefit plans

•
Assist with audit preparation by compiling supporting documentation

•
Review and support Sales & Use Tax compliance

•
Analyze job cost reports and generate customized financial reports as needed

•
Contribute to the development and improvement of accounting policies and procedures

•
Participate in special projects and ad hoc analysis to support business operations

Qualifications :
•
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

•
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry

•
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls

•
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to support analysis and reconciliations

•
Experience with accounting systems such as Spectrum/Viewpoint is highly preferred

•
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities

•
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset

•
Self-starter with a positive attitude and desire for continued professional growth

Must be authorized to work in the United States
