The Senior Accountant ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company’s financial accounting and reporting. The role includes full responsibility for financial statements under HGB and RechKredV, strong working knowledge of IFRS, and ownership of national and EU-level regulatory reporting. As a subject-matter expert, the Senior Accountant drives process improvements, ensures robust internal controls, and supports strategic finance activities

What you'll do

• Manage and execute period-end closings (monthly, quarterly, annual) in accordance with HGB, RechKredV, and applicable IFRS standards where required.

• Prepare, review, and analyse statutory and management financial statements.
Maintain, reconcile, and substantiate complex general ledger accounts, including accruals, provisions, intercompany positions.

• Ensure compliant accounting treatment and documentation under HGB and IFRS.
Lead bank, AP/AR, and balance sheet reconciliations and ensure audit readiness.

• Manage regulatory reporting obligations, including:
AWV reporting
IFD/IFR regulatory reporting
FinaV notifications
Other supervisory or statistical filings as applicable

• Coordinate annual audits and foster effective communication with auditors and regulatory bodies.

• Ensure accurate accounting processes within DATEV, including optimisation of workflows.
Support the Head of Finance with budgeting, forecasting, liquidity management, and financial analysis.

• Lead or contribute to finance transformation initiatives (automation, system enhancements, policy updates).

What you need to have

Education & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

• Certified Bilanzbuchhalter preferred.

• Additional certifications (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) are advantageous, especially with IFRS relevance.

Experience

• 5–7+ years professional accounting experience, ideally in a regulated financial services environment.

• Strong expertise in HGB, RechKredV, and practical familiarity with IFRS accounting requirements.

• Demonstrated experience in national and EU reporting frameworks (AWV / IFD–IFR / FinaV).

• Extensive hands-on work with DATEV.

• Proven track record in audit preparation and interactions with supervisory bodies.

• Advanced MS Excel skills; comfort with financial systems and structured data.

• Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex accounting issues for stakeholders.
