ISP Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator ( SENDCo)
with Maths or English Subject Specialism

Purpose of Role

To create an environment that meets the special educational needs and disabilities of each child.


To ensure that the educational needs of children are identified, assessed and provided for.


To make clear the expectations of all partners in the process.


To identify the roles and responsibilities of staff in providing for children’s educational needs.


To support classroom teachers in order to ensure all children learn effectively.


To enable all children to have full access to all elements of the school curriculum.


To ensure that parents are able to play their part in supporting their child’s education.


To maintain a partnership between pupils, parents and professionals.


To ensure that our children have a voice in this process and contribute to their own learning.

Key Responsibilities:

Adhere to global ISP Principles and follow the criteria set out in the ISP Teacher Role Profile

Under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher and her Senior Leadership Team, carry out the professional duties of a school teacher as set out in the current UK Teachers’ standards document: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1040274/Teachers__Standards_Dec_2021.pdf


Be accountable for leading, managing and developing teaching and learning in your area in line with age-related curriculum objectives and school policies and work closely with SLT and Head of school to ensure that good practice is evident at all times.


This post receives 20% of the teaching timetable as PPA time as well as additional periods in order to carry out your Middle Management duties as SENDCo.. Please note that you may be asked to cover for absences when needed during non- teaching periods.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

Managing referrals
To take lead responsibility for:
Manage the day-to-day operation of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Department.

Identify and assess the specific needs of pupils with SEND and keep the register updated.


Coordinate the provision for children with SEND and update the intervention plan accordingly.
Manage a range of resources, both human and material, to enable appropriate provision to be made.


Set up a personalised plan on ISAMS for each pupil with SEND and support the responsible teachers to keep the plan updated.


Support and advise teaching staff through learning visits; learning conversations and personalised plan meetings.


Provide resources, information and strategies to teachers for working with pupils with SEND.


Provide staff training on different types of special educational needs and disabilities when needed.


Deliver specific intervention programmes for pupils with SEND (as appropriate to the individual child’s needs).

Translate and distribute to relevant parties any information or reports from external professionals.

Make applications for exam access arrangements for relevant pupils to examination boards.


Act as a link with parents and establish good relationships.


Support transition of SEND pupils from one year group to the next.


Monitor and evaluate the SEND provision, and report to the headteacher.

To work in partnership with the Educational Psychologist to ensure that all the needs of the pupils on the SEND register are met..

Raising Awareness

Ensure the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Policy, and the implementation of it, is reviewed at least annually and is up to date.


Ensure the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy is available publicly.


When children leave the School, work with admissions and Secretaria Tecnica to ensure that their SEND protection file is transferred to their new school or college as soon as possible.


Training

The SENDCo should receive appropriate training and refresh their knowledge and skills through network meetings, email updates and documents on an ongoing basis in order to:

Understand the assessment process for providing early help and intervention.


Ensure each member of staff has access to and understands the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Policy. especially new and part time staff. This must be provided via training at the start of each academic year with refresher training sessions throughout the year


Be alert to the specific needs of children in need, those with special educational needs and young carers


Be able to keep detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals in line with ISP policy and procedure


Obtain access to resources and attend any relevant or refresher training courses
