INTRODUCTION

Commissionaires Great Lakes (CGL) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1925 on a mandate that prioritizes providing meaningful employment for veterans and others committed to the well-being of Canadians primarily in security guard and related services. Spanning Central and Southwestern Ontario, our services are customized to respond to the dynamic and evolving security needs of both private and public sector clients. These include uniformed guard, mobile response and support services, by-law enforcement and identification services. 

 

We are currently seeking a Commissionaire to join our growing team. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

WHAT OUR EXCEPTIONAL COMMISSIONAIRES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Security Supervisors are senior to the Team Leaders and Patrol guards on their shift.  Their primary role is the patrolling of unmanned facilities after hours and the supervision of the security staff on their shift. Supervisors ensure adequate communication between the Control Operators and the Patrol staff during alarms, emergencies, and staff issues at other buildings. Security Supervisors also assist with any issues at 1 Commerce Valley Drive East, Markham as required by the situation. They collect all information from the shift and maintain the shift activity reports for Contract Manager and the Client while ensuring compliance with the policies and procedure during their shift by the Control Operator and Patrol Guard. Must be active in training and conducting counselling’s if needed for low performance staff for performance improvements.
 
Essential Functions

Ensure thorough and accurate shift briefings and debriefings are conducted.

Coordinate extra and special duties with Security Staff.

Review sign-in logs, security reports, key audit, receiving logs, equipment logs, and notebooks for errors, and rectify mistakes with the security team.

Oversee shift duties and decisions made by staff during the shift.

Prepare, review, and approve reports submitted by personnel on shift.

Follow up on Incident Reports and conduct initial investigations as required.

Track and report all discrepancies related to posted schedules.

Verify that all staff on shift are in complete and proper uniform.

Perform reception duties as required.

Perform Patrol Guard duties when required.

Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) to promote safety for all security staff.

Ensure proper coverage for book-offs or early departures, managing overtime effectively.

Train new hires when required.

Maintain a successful performance evaluation (95% average).

Complete and submit all monthly, weekly, and daily tasks assigned by the Contract Manager or client.

Ensure all new staff receive Contractor packages for completion.

Ensure client expectations regarding superior staff performance and professional deportment are consistently met.

Assess the activities and duty performance of Security staff for mandatory reviews.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Protect company personnel, product, proprietary information, and physical facilities in accordance with site policies and procedures.

Keep the Contract Manager informed of all actions, including information communicated to client personnel.

Champion the values and customer service expectations of the contracted company and AMD.

Working Conditions

Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Flexibility to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as required.

Potential exposure to high noise levels or varying weather and temperature conditions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

WE ARE EXCITED FOR YOU TO OFFER US:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma

MUST hold a valid Ontario Security Guard License

MUST hold a valid First Aid and CPR certificate

MUST have security supervisor experience

Control Room certification plus 5 years of security experience.

Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Office, and the ability to learn security management and CRM software.

Preferred: Diploma in Police Foundations.

Ability to stand, sit, and walk for long periods.

Ability to complete frequent patrols.

Knowledge of building safety and facility operations.

Understanding of escalation policies and procedures.

Fluent English communication skills: French is considered an asset.

Excellent customer service and reception skills.

Rate of Pay: $27.00 per hour

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 2300 - 0700 

Location: 1 Commerce Valley Drive, Markham ON
