Security Operations Investigator
Office of the Fulton County Clerk of Superior and Magistrate Courts
Hourly Rate: $31.28 (29-hour workweek)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as operationally required
Position Summary
The Security Operations Investigator is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment across all facilities operated by the Office of the Fulton County Clerk of Superior and Magistrate Courts. This position provides a consistent on-site security presence during regular business hours and supports enterprise-wide risk mitigation, facility security oversight, threat assessment, and incident response. The role also provides security support during official public functions and events as operationally required.
The position will be sworn in by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and must maintain active Georgia POST certification. While sworn, the authority exercised in this role is limited to duties within the scope of assignment to the Clerk’s Office and conducted in coordination with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement partners. This is a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation for approved overtime or additional hours worked will be administered in accordance with Fulton County policy.
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Clerk of Superior and Magistrate Courts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain a visible on-site security presence during regular business hours.
Monitor facilities, staff areas, and public access points to identify and deter potential safety concerns.
Conduct periodic physical security assessments of facilities and operational procedures.
Develop and recommend security protocols, emergency response procedures, and access-control measures.
Assess and document potential threats or suspicious activity and provide risk mitigation recommendations.
Respond to security-related incidents and prepare detailed written reports.
Coordinate with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies as required.
Review security footage and assist with investigative follow-up related to safety concerns.
Provide security advisories and situational awareness briefings to leadership.
Support security planning and presence during official meetings, public events, and special functions.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and county policies.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Safety, or related field; and
Minimum three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, investigations, or security operations (five years preferred);
OR
Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
Active Georgia POST Certification in good standing.
Must be eligible to be sworn in by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
Must maintain POST certification and any required qualifications throughout employment.
Must comply with all applicable training and qualification standards required for sworn personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of criminal laws, investigative techniques, and threat assessment principles.
Understanding of facility and workplace security practices.
Ability to assess risk and respond appropriately in dynamic environments.
Strong written documentation and reporting skills.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a professional court and administrative environment with frequent public interaction. The position may involve exposure to high-conflict situations and potential safety risks.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to respond quickly to emergent situations.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to perform duties consistent with sworn law enforcement standards as applicable to the scope of assignment.

Eligibility to be sworn in by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
