In this role you will:
• Be responsible for certification activities for aircraft seating products within the Boeing Commercial Airplanes business unit, producing STCs that allow post-delivery installation of new seating products.
• Serve as a Boeing representative for stress, engineering and certification topics related to the integration of aircraft seating.
• Perform analytical and finite element (FE) calculations, assess and predict structural failure modes, including execution of root cause analysis.
• Compile structural substantiation documents and review data from our suppliers for integration approval of seats (all seat types, including those with unique features) into the airframe.
• Work closely with Boeing teams and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure our products are delivered in the correct condition and quality.
What you bring to the table:
Basic qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
• Bachelor’s degree in Stress/Structures/Mechanical or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering.
• 5+ years of related work experience in aerospace engineering, including stress analysis, supplier integration, and understanding of the EASA Part 21J certification process.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
• Experience: You have a good understanding of EASA regulatory and applicable airworthiness requirements, including CS-25.561 and CS-25.562 and their associated ACs and AMCs. Experience in seat development and certification covering concept definition through approval, including test witnessing, familiarity with ETSO performance standards (i.e.: C127, C39 series), and working knowledge of STC processes for aircraft seats.
• Knowledge: Show strong attention to detail with experience in aircraft interior modification programs, including certifying novel seat features such as pre-tensioners and air bags. Ability to manage multiple programs with varying levels of requirements.
• Collaboration: Demonstrated experience working effectively with colleagues and stakeholders (i.e.: suppliers and customers). Willingness to help, develop, mentor and coach less experienced staff.
• Tools: Proficiency with key engineering tools: ENOVIA, Catia V5/V6, Altair HyperWorks, PATRAN / NASTRAN.
