Job Summary:
The Agronomy Research Technician (Part-Time) will support controlled environment plant research and growth operations across growth chambers, greenhouse systems, and growth rooms. This role will be responsible for executing plant cultivation protocols, collecting plant growth data, and supporting research trials focused on fertilizer efficacy, plant physiology, and mode of action studies. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow experimental protocols, and comfort working in both laboratory and greenhouse environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Arabidopsis Growth Chamber Operations
Sterilize seeds, conduct stratification protocols, and manage germination in sterile media
Maintain hydroponic and agar-based growing systems
Monitor plant health, watering schedules, and nutrient solution preparation
Apply foliar treatments as directed
Harvest tissue samples for downstream biochemical analysis
Greenhouse & Growth Chamber Management
Manage corn cultivation in container systems including media preparation and planting
Conduct routine plant maintenance including fertilization, irrigation, and pest monitoring
Collect plant growth metrics including chlorophyll content, leaf area index, biomass, plant height, and stomatal conductance
Support soil and foliar treatment applications
Growth Room Operations
Support cultivation of multiple crop species (corn, soy, wheat, tomatoes, lettuce)
Manage crop rotation schedules and experimental protocols
Conduct data collection and plant measurements across systems
Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures and observations
General Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory and experimental records
Report findings to the R&D team during regular meetings
Assist with mode of action studies and product efficacy testing
Follow all safety protocols and laboratory procedures
Support analytical measurements and sample preparation
Qualifications:
Background in plant biology, agronomy, horticulture, or related field (degree or relevant experience preferred)
Experience with greenhouse, growth chamber, or plant production systems preferred
Experience with hydroponic or soilless systems preferred
Exposure to Arabidopsis or controlled environment research preferred
Experience supporting experimental trials or research programs preferred
Familiarity with plant physiological measurements and data collection preferred
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This role involves a mix of laboratory, greenhouse, and growth room environments. Work may include standing for extended periods, lifting materials, and performing repetitive plant care and measurement tasks. The position requires strong self-direction and the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic R&D setting.
